A Kansas City man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted three people outside a Platte County motel and shot a service dog who tried to intervene in the attack. According to a probable cause statement, Mardrecuis D. Williams, 25, got into a fight with a person on Feb. 26 at a Motel 6. Both Williams and the other person were asked to leave the motel and not return. After being asked to leave, Williams returned twice overnight and knocked on the victims’ door, saying that he would kill them, according to the report. The next day, as the three victims were checking out and walking toward their vehicle, Williams and another suspect allegedly came out from behind a dumpster and began attacking them. At one point, Lolly, a 3-year-old Border Collie, attacked Williams, and he allegedly shot the service dog, the report said. Lolly was taken to an area animal hospital, where she had surgery to repair the gunshot wound to her left side and a ruptured spleen. Her intestines had fallen out due to the impact of the bullet, which veterinary staff also repaired. In addition, she had a three-inch laceration to her rear leg. The female victim told police that she suffers from a condition that causes joint pain, dizziness and panic attacks. Lolly helps provide balance during her dizziness episodes and provides comfort during panic attacks, she said.Williams was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and one count each of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree trespass and causing substantial injury to a service dog.He is being held at the Jackson County Jail on a ,000 cash bond. 1656
A Hollywood filmmaker who has produced a number of major films has been charged with fraud, the Department of Justice said late last week.William Sadleir, whose credits include the 2019 Matthew McConaughey film “Serenity,” and the 2017 Halle Berry movie “Kidnap,” is accused of illegally taking .7 million in Paycheck Protection Program funds. The PPP was implemented earlier this year to help small businesses make payroll amid the spread of COVID-19. He was also accused of being involved in a massive wire fraud scheme. The Department of Justice said that Sadleir used funds from the PPP for personal and non-business-related expenses, including personal credit cards and a car loan. The DOJ said he allegedly transferred over half the money to a personal bank account and began using and attempting to use the funds to pay off personal credit card debts totaling more than ,000 and a car loan totaling approximately ,000, among other personal expenses. Court documents said that Sadleir claimed that the funds would be used to support payroll expenses for three film production and distribution companies.“This defendant allegedly used Paycheck Protection Program loans to pay off his personal credit card debts and other personal expenses, rather than using the funds for legitimate business needs,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “As the department has made clear, those who defraud the PPP to line their own pockets at the expense of the American people will be brought to justice.”Sadleir faces federal charges of wire fraud, bank fraud, false statements to a financial institution, and false statements to the Small Business Association.Meanwhile, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York said last week that was allegedly involved in a million wire fraud scheme. Among the allegedly fraudulent activity, he is accused of embezzling approximately million of investor funds from his film company.“As alleged, William Sadleir orchestrated a massive fraud, embezzling approximately million of investor funds from his film company to pay for a Beverly Hills estate, among other fraudulent acts. Thanks to the dedicated work of our law enforcement partners at the FBI, Sadleir will be held accountable for his behind-the-scenes misdeeds.” 2355

"Saturday Night Live" has fired one of its most recent hires, Shane Gillis, just days after videos of comedian making bigoted comments came to light."After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining 'SNL,'" an 'SNL' spokesperson on behalf of Lorne Michaels said in a statement to CNN. "We want 'SNL' to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as comedian and his impressive audition for 'SNL.' We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard." 758
