(KGTV) -- The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating a series of suspicious fires over the weekend.According to the department, the activity began on September 17, when a series of fires broke out in East Chula Vista. Crews were called to the fires beginning at 3:30 a.m.The department says four separate fires sparked within a 30-minute window on Lake Crest Drive, Eastlake Parkway, Telegraph Canyon Road, and East J Street.RELATED: Fire scorches Chula Vista playground overnightOn September 19, a fire erupted at a Veterans Park playground. Video from the scene showed the raging blaze and an explosion at the playground. Fire officials are investigating the fire at the Veterans Park Community Center as suspicious.Police are also investigating a fire that started on September 20 on the 1300 block of Martin Place. According to fire officials, residents in the home woke up to find their backyard fence on fire.“As of this latest one, we have now requested our PD liaison because there seems to be a trend and we want to get to the bottom of this,” said Captain Linda D’Orsi, Public Information Officer for the Chula Vista Fire Department.Captain D’Orsi said they have not found anything left behind at each scene and have not found any witnesses with information on people in the area.“No obvious evidence left at the scene, no matches no flares,” she said.She added that anyone with information is asked to call the Chula Vista Police Department non emergency line at 619-691-5151.“We just want the community to be aware and be willing to provide information if they have any,” said Captain D’Orsi.See the map below for locations on all the blazes: 1690

(KGTV) - Surveillance video captured masked burglars as they went shopping inside a Chula Vista home last Friday.When Gerard arrived last weekend at his parent's home off Procter Valley Road, he was greeted with ransacked rooms. "Stressed and anxious walking through the home," said Gerard, who asked us not to use his last name.Off the master bedroom, he found a shattered sliding door and broken shutters."Shocked and nervous, because I had to tell my parents who were out of the country that their home had been broken into, and no one wants to hear that news," said Gerard.A motion activated camera revealed the intruders: two masked burglars, one with a flashlight and the other with a backpack, going from room to room around 8:30 p.m. In a second clip, they are seen emerging from the family room before heading toward a bedroom. Missing from that room is about ,000 worth of his mother's jewelry, most of which she bought herself."Worked her whole life as a nurse. Invested her money and paid for it herself. It's a lifetime of work," said Gerard.Gerard believes the intruders were no amateurs. The masks, gloves and heavy clothing they wore helped preventing any hair and DNA evidence from being left behind."They look comfortable, the way they move. They are professionals. Monday to reconsider plans to lay off roughly 300 employees at the company's Chula Vista manufacturing plant as it looks toward shuttering the facility entirely.Reps. Juan Vargas, D-Chula Vista, and Scott Peters, D-San Diego, joined California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris to push back against the layoffs. Vargas and Peters also requested that the company answer a list of questions about how UTC decided to shutter the plant and how involved the machinists union was in the discussion.UTC notified workers in July of the company's plan to close the factory by 2020."We understand that complex domestic and international markets factor into these difficult decisions; however, we note that UTC's company website says it creates products for one of the ‘fastest growing industries on the planet,"' Vargas and Peters said in a letter to UTC Aerospace Systems President David Gitlin. "This robust characterization of the industry seems to conflict with the decision to eliminate hundreds of production jobs."UTC's plant in Chula Vista has operated since 1940 and produces engine pods and mounts for aerospace companies like Boeing and Airbus. The union representing the workers charges UTC with moving its manufacturing plants to Mexico to take advantage of cheaper wages."We hope UTC reconsiders its decision to shut down its manufacturing facility in Chula Vista," said Robert Martinez Jr., president of the International Association of Machinists. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista parents who once felt hopeless now feel empowered to care for their children with behavioral challenges. Through the Parent Intervention Program (PIP), parents learn new strategies while their children develop their social-emotional skills and new ways of expressing themselves. PIP is offered free to Chula Vista families through the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD)."We want to do what we can for our families and children when it comes to the whole child, not only cognitively but socially and emotionally," said Rita Palet, the Director of Early Childhood Education Programs for CVESD.Palet says this is now a priority for the district, which is why they're offering the PIP program to families for free."Behaviors take a while to develop, so they do take a while to diminish," said Palet.Through the program, parents meet others dealing with similar struggles. "When you come here it makes you feel safe, I feel safe coming here, even when we had a rough morning getting here, they're so welcoming," said Mina Fagen, who brings her son to the program.Fagen says her son started acting out after changes happened in the family; his sister went to kindergarten and they also had a new baby in the family."I felt overwhelmed, and still at times feel overwhelmed, but this program gives me a safe place to go to," said Fagen.Parents ultimately give back to the program by volunteering their time later as a "payback parent." This means staff members have completed the program with their own child and can support others going through the program.
