SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s time for family movie nights in the park! The 2018 Summer Movies in the Park series will kick off next Friday with a viewing of Coco at Waterfront Park.The event series is a great option for a family-friendly night out--- it offers games, giveaways, music and activities before the sun goes down. After sunset, you and your family can settle into your chairs and blankets to watch a movie under the stars.Movies are rated G through PG-13. This year’s Summer Movies in the Park is bigger than ever, with 151 movies showing at dozens of parks across the county. All screenings are free and open to the public.Movies include new hits, like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Black Panther,” as well as classics like “The Princess Bride” and “Back to the Future.” Be sure to check out the movie calendar for a complete schedule.San Diego County Parks and Recreation and sponsor cities began the series in 2007 as a “take back our parks” initiative. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — TwitchCon has announced it will cancel this year's convention in San Diego originally scheduled in September.The convention — which brings together popular video streamers and the community for panels, parties, and more — was set to arrive in San Diego from Sept. 25-27 before organizers called off the event."Due to restrictions on large gatherings and ongoing concerns for the health and safety of our community, the Twitch team and the local San Diego community, we have decided to cancel TwitchCon San Diego this fall," organizers stated online. The convention is now exploring ways to potentially hold the event virtually."While we can’t gather in person, we’re exploring ways that we could join forces in an alternate dimension later this year. We’ll keep you posted," organizers wrote.Those who have already booked a hotel room through Twitch’s hotel block will not be charged. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Whale watchers have been delighting over an invasion of humpback whales off San Diego’s coast.Domenic Biagini is a photographer for San Diego Whale Watch. He says the numbers in recent days have been unprecedented in San Diego “We’ve had a huge influx of humpback whales that have pretty much shown us all of their unique behaviors, lunge feeding, breaching, tail-throwing,” said Biagini. “They’ve given us it all on every trip, they’ve been mixed in with dolphins, it’s been really special out here.”RELATED: Break from town: Where to take a day trip from San DiegoBiagini says the influx is due to massive amounts of bait, including one school of anchovies the size of a football field. “Rarely do we see double-digit whales, some of these days we’ve seen over 20 whales all in one area feeding, and almost always when they’ve been feeding they’ve had thousands of common dolphins around them, sea lions nearing the hundreds.”RELATED: San Diegan's PB phone pic up for Smithsonian photo of the yearBiagini captures it all on his drone and says it’s been some of the most spectacular footage he's gotten in San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two UC San Diego Health workers have tested positive for COVID-19, officials with the medical system announced Saturday.UCSD Health said in a statement that the workers "are recuperating at home and doing well," officials said."Both infected health workers sought medical assessment after exhibiting key respiratory symptoms, and were tested," according to UCSD Health.University officials cite "exposure and infection in the community" as reasons for the workers contracting the virus, rather than from travel or a patient."UC San Diego Health has launched an extensive effort to identify any patients or health system colleagues who may have been in recent contact with either of the two health workers," officials said.The group operates three hospitals: UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla, and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center also in La Jolla.
