SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect they say tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl on her way home from school.According to police, the victim was walking home on the 700 block of Picador Boulevard near Montgomery Middle School in Otay Mesa West when she noticed she was being followed by a black van.The van pulled up next to the girl and opened the door when the man inside asked the 13-year-old if she wanted a ride home.The suspect then grabbed the victim by the wrist and tried to pull her into the van before she was able to escape and run home.A witness driving by saw the 13-year-old talking with the suspect and made a U-turn before seeing the victim run away.The suspect is described as a white male between 50-60-years-old with glasses, a full beard and a raspy voice. Police say the van had a “J” or a “K” in the plate. 870

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Normal Heights will become the testing ground for 7-Eleven's newest store strategy aimed at young consumers.The company will open a location of its "Evolution Store" concept at 3504 El Cajon Blvd. "in the next month or so," a company spokesperson told 10News.The store, geared to have a millennial appeal, will offer consumers options like made-to-order coffee and smoothie drinks, kombucha and cold brew on tap, and self-serve frozen yogurt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials say more than 80 people are currently being monitored for coronavirus symptoms in San Diego County, as the first flight of quarantine passengers from a cruise ship arrived at MCAS Miramar Tuesday. A group consisting of between 50-60 people arrived at MCAS Miramar just before 10 p.m. Tuesday for a 14-day quarantine. The passengers had been aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship that was brought to Oakland.All passengers have been screened and showed no symptoms, County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, adding that about 400 more passengers were expected to arrive at Miramar on Wednesday.The cruise ship reported at least 20 people infected with coronavirus aboard the ship, before it was directed to dock in Oakland after spending about a week awaiting orders off California's coast.RELATED: San Diego County woman tests positive for coronavirus following overseas travelAbout 900 California residents who were aboard the ship will be repatriated through MCAS Miramar and Travis Air Force Base in Northern California, according to Wooten. MCAS Miramar confirmed the arrival late Tuesday and larger group expected Wednesday.In a statement, MCAS Miramar Commanding Officer Col. Charles Dockery said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is leading the local quarantine effort on the base."As with the previous mission, all passengers entering quarantine will have been deemed asymptomatic by health care professionals. Passengers will remain quarantined throughout the 14-day period and there will be no contact with DOD personnel. Finally, any person that tests positive for COVID-19 will be transferred off-station," Col. Dockery's statement read.San Diego is currently monitoring 73 travelers from China and Iran for coronavirus symptoms, according to the county. Since Feb. 6, 448 travelers have been monitored, with 375 travelers clearing their quarantine period.Currently, 11 non-travel related individuals in San Diego County are being monitored: Nine who had contact with an Orange County patient who works in Chula Vista and two people who had contact with a travel-related coronavirus patient who lives in San Diego County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Nurses say they're approaching a breaking point amid the coronavirus pandemic.A San Diego registered nurse spoke to 10News, but asked we don't identify her out of fear she would lose her job, to explain what she and other healthcare workers on the front lines are experiencing.She said Thursday night she saw a post on a nursing social media page stating nurses were encouraged not to wear N95 masks in the Intensive Care Unit. Also circulating on social media is a Change.org petition titled, "US Physicians/Healthcare Workers For Personal Protective Equipment in COVID-19 Pandemic." The petition garnered more than 800,000 signatures by Friday afternoon.Part of the argument is the CDC downgraded the mode of transmission from aerosol to droplets. That means a surgical mask is allowed over the more sturdy N95 mask."Things that are frightening us the most is 1. Nurses are not allowed to bring their own N95 masks from home, we are not allowed to enter the hospital with them. 2. Management has been asking nurses not to wear their masks in hallways, or at the nursing station... and otherwise nurses have been written up with HR if they do not remove the masks... Masks having been removed from floors and only held by management," the unnamed nurse said, adding some hospitals nurses are only allowed one per shift.That is what's causing some nurses to panic. The nurse said there's been talk about refusing patient care until they are supplied with what they deem sufficient protection equipment.
