OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - After years of planning, the City of Oceanside is now weeks away from breaking ground on a project that will create a new source of drinking water. Called Pure Water Oceanside, recycled water with go through a rigorous purification system, ultimately supplying 32 percent of the city's water supply needs. "It's more sustainable and will help us stabilize rates moving forward," said Sarah Davis, a Senior Environmental Specialist with the City of Oceanside.Right now, the city is offering tours of its water plant and educating residents on Pure Water Oceanside. Similar projects have gained headlines because water from your sinks and toilets is recycled into drinking water.Davis wants to assure the public that Pure Water Oceanside will yield high-quality drinking water that is clean, safe, drought-proof, and environmentally sound. "Currently, Oceanside imports the majority of our water from Northern California or the Colorado River, so that comes from hundreds of miles away, and takes a lot of energy to transport. Also, the cost of that continues to increase," said Davis. On Monday, the US House voted in favor of a 0 billion stimulus package that includes funds for the travel industry. Early in the pandemic, airlines were able to retain many employees during the spring in summer with assistance from the federal government as air travel has been cut by over 50% since March. (KGTV) - Police are asking the public's help to identify a man suspected of trying to lure a child away from her mother at a North County Walmart.Oceanside Police said the incident occurred on Sept. 6 after a juvenile female and her mom shopping at the Walmart location at 705 College Boulevard reported a stolen cell phone.Police said security footage showed a man following the pair around the store and taking the juvenile's cell phone from their cart when they were not looking. The mother and daughter reported the phone stolen to security, according to police."Shortly after the girl and her mom reported the lost phone to security, the male started conversing with the juvenile and stated he had her phone in his vehicle," Bussey said.The man started talking with the juvenile, police said, and stated he had her cell phone in his vehicle, a white hatchback, possibly a Hyundai Elantra GT."The male was possibly attempting to lure the juvenile to his vehicle to retrieve the phone," OPD said in a release."I watch really closely. I've got a younger guy so he stays attached to my hip; thank goodness but this is gonna make me even more vigilant. (AP) — Facebook is tightening its policy against QAnon, the baseless conspiracy theory QAnon, which paints President Donald Trump as a secret warrior against a supposed child-trafficking ring run by celebrities and government officials."Starting today, we will remove any Facebook Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts representing QAnon, even if they contain no violent content," a blog post from the company stated on Tuesday. The move comes less than two months after Facebook said it would stop promoting the group and its adherents — but faltered with spotty enforcement. Facebook said since they stepped up these measures in August, they have removed more than 1,500 pages and groups for QAnon containing discussions of potential violence and more than 6,500 pages and groups connected with militarized social movements.Facebook said Tuesday that it will remove Facebook pages, groups and Instagram accounts for “representing QAnon.”"Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts that represent an identified Militarized Social Movement are already prohibited. And we will continue to disable the profiles of admins who manage Pages and Groups removed for violating this policy, as we began doing in August," the company stated. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nichols Elementary School in Oceanside briefly went on lockdown Monday afternoon after reports of a suspicious person on the playground. The lockdown was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at the school located on the 4200 block of Old Grove Road. According to police, a school employee was out with the children on the playground when she saw an unknown man on the premises. The woman called police and took the students inside, prompting the 25-minute precautionary lockdown. Police responded and searched the area, but were unable to find anyone, at which point the school was taken off lockdown. 650
