EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — An El Cajon Popeyes location has been approved to reopen after county health officials deemed the location an "imminent health hazard," forcing a temporary closure.Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 110 Jamacha Rd. was closed this week after an inspection by the county Department of Environmental Health (DEH) on Jan. 21, 2020 found a cockroach infestation, according to the notice. That same day and the next, the location underwent pest control treatment and a complete sanitation of the restaurant.A 10News viewer reached out after finding the location shuttered.The DEH returned Thursday and determined the infestation was cleared, scoring an A (100%), allowing the restaurant to reopen.A routine follow-up inspection will be conducted in 60-90 days, according to the city.10News reached out to Popeyes for comment, but have not heard back. 873

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Over two dozen people were displaced Sunday night after a fire ripped through an apartment building on Bradley Avenue in El Cajon. The fire started on the first floor of the building, inside of a unit that was being renovated. Witnesses told 10News they heard a commotion and people screaming there was a fire. Several neighbors say they stepped in to help using buckets of water to put out the flames. Firefighters say the fire appeared to have started inside the walls of the apartment with a plumbers torch that was being used during the renovation. Fire officials say the fire damaged four of the units, displacing 21 adults and 12 children. The Red Cross is providing shelter for the night for those displaced. One of the men working inside the apartment suffered a minor burn on his left hand but told 10News he was okay. 864

During a quarterly call with shareholders Wednesday, Papa John's CEO John Schnatter cited national anthem protests in the NFL as one of the reasons for the company's falling stock price.According to ESPN, Schnatter also took veiled shots at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for not putting a stop to the anthem protests."Leadership starts at the top and this is an example of poor leadership," Schnatter said. ESPN also reports that Schnatter felt the issue should have been "nipped in the bud" when the protests first began. Papa John's stock price has fallen 5 percent since August. EL CAJON (KGTV) -- Multiple people were injured Thursday night when a car crashed into a Mexican food restaurant in El Cajon. The crash happened at 7:37 p.m. at the Sombrero Mexican Food restaurant located at 1501 E. Washington Avenue.Four employees were inside the restaurant at the time, according to El Cajon Police. All of them received minor injuries, and one of them was taken to the hospital.El Cajon officers tried to stop the driver of the car earlier in the evening but stopped the pursuit because it was unsafe. A short while later, the driver plowed into the restaurant. It's not clear why the officers were attempting to stop him.The driver tried to run from the scene following the crash, but officers were able to arrest him. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Police say they are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run and don't believe drugs and alcohol played a part. 912

During an appearance on ABC News Friday morning, Health and Human Services Director Alex Azar said that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would grant Emergency Use Authorization to Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine.Azar added that while the process for Emergency Use Authorization has not been finalized, he expects Americans to receive initial doses of the vaccine by "Monday or Tuesday of next week."Azar's comments come a day after an FDA panel voted to recommend that the Pfizer vaccine be given Emergency Use Authorization. In a joint statement released Friday morning, FDA head Dr. Stephen Hahn and Dr. Peter Marks, the director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said that the FDA would "rapidly work toward finalization and issuance of an emergency use authorization." They also said they had notified the CDC and federal authorities charged with distributing the vaccine "so they can execute their plans for timely vaccine distribution."The Pfizer vaccine has already been approved for emergency use in Canada and the United Kingdom. The U.K. began distributing initial doses earlier this week.The final push for a vaccine comes as cases of the virus spike to terrifying levels. More than 3,000 people died of COVID-19 on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the COVID Tracking Project, and with the virus spreading at record levels, health officials warn that deaths could increase further. 1423
