Many of the thousands of migrants waiting to claim asylum are realizing their dream to live in America may be a tougher road than they imagined, especially following Sunday’s clash at the border, involving a group of migrants and U.S. officials.Conditions are horrid in one camp in the border city of Tijuana, Mexico, where people have been living in tents for weeks in a lot that once was a baseball complex. Many of them dream of starting a new live in the U.S., but those dreams are fading.Maria Elena Reyes waited in line for hours, hoping a volunteer may have a clean shirt. For her, these living conditions, and even the month-long journey from Honduras, all seemed worth it to get to the border. But that’s when she says she had hope of finding asylum in America.“To look for a better life, to help my grandchildren who are in Honduras and my daughters, and for myself,” Reyes says.But like others at the camp, her optimism seems to fade with each passing day in the tent city, especially after what happened Sunday, when U.S. border agents used tear gas on a group of migrants.“I would say after that incident, which was really bad, a lot of doors closed,” Reyes says.Already worn out from the long journey, many of these migrants are now fearful of the US, scared of what could happen at the border, even if they apply for asylum the legal way.Sarahi Nunes and her 3-year-old daughter, Genesis, thought getting into the US would be easier, but knowing there’s a months-long wait just for an official asylum appointment, makes her doubt whether she'll ever obtain her American dream.“Yes, at first, that was the plan,” Nunes says. “But now, I see how difficult it is for people asking for asylum.” She's already started the process of applying for a work visa to stay here, in Mexico. She says living in Mexico would still be a step up from her life in Honduras.Reyes is also hopeful she could find a job in Mexico, but she says if she doesn't in the next week, she will go back to Honduras.“It was a very hard battle to get here,” Reyes says. “I would not like to go back empty-handed.”  Reyes says she doesn’t want to give up, but knowing if she does return home, that’s what it will feel like. 2222

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Los Angeles County sheriff says he has concerns about tactics deputies used to detain three Black teenagers at gunpoint after the mother of one said they had been threatened by a man holding a knife.Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Monday that he had seen a video of the incident, which was uploaded by one of the teens' mothers to her Instagram profile on Saturday.The mother wrote that the man tried to stab the boys, but the deputies handcuffed her son and the others.“The guy became so aggressive that he took his shirt off pulled out a knife and whip them tried to stabbed them,” she wrote. “His friends only had their skateboards to cover them from the knife and whip so they held it out to keep distance from this guy.”The video shows the deputies holding out at least two handguns and one long gun.A sheriff’s spokeswoman says the teens were not arrested and were released at the scene.The sheriff said on Twitter that the matter is being investigated.My statement regarding the recent video involving a call for service in Santa Clarita. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A grand jury announced Wednesday that none of the three officers involved in the police killing of Breonna Taylor will be indicted on homicide charges, including murder or manslaughter.Instead, one of the officers, Brett Hankison, is being charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for firing into the apartments of Taylor's neighbors. The class D felony is punishable of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to ,000. Hankison's bail is set at ,000 cash bond.Kentucky law says, “a person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person.”The other two officers involved in the shooting, Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, are not facing charges.During a press conference, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said the state could not pursue charges against Mattingly and Cosgrove, because their use of force was “justified to protect themselves” after being fired upon by Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker.“This justification bars us from pursuing criminal charges in Miss Breonna Taylor’s death,” said Cameron.Cameron also said a witness corroborated officers' claims that they announced themselves prior to entering Taylor's apartment, where they shot and killed the 26-year-old EMT. Cameron said it was "difficult" to inform Taylor's family about the grand jury's decision. "It's been a difficult day.
