SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New data shows that home sales in Southern California could be dipping, while sales in San Diego County are on the rise. The data from CoreLogic shows that the sale of existing housing sold in Southern California in April of 2018 was down nearly four percent since March of 2018.In San Diego County, however, home sales increased by more than five percent in April. Likewise, year-over-year home sales across the county increased by more than two percent. RELATED: How much you need to earn to buy a home in San Diego CountyData also shows that a large chunk of home buyers don’t even live in Southern California. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Peeps are traditionally a sign of Spring: brightly colored marshmallow candy that’s front and center on store shelves.Long after Easter, Peeps, made by the Just Born company, appear to stay fresh as ever, seemingly indestructible in their pastel packages.In 2002, 10News put the durability of the everlasting marshmallows to the test. Reporter Herb Cawthorne, photographer Richard Klein and producer Revelle Anderson put Peeps on camera.The inspiration was simple, according to Klein. “We were sitting around talking about the purpose behind the Peep,” Klein said.That led to an elaborate shoot at San Diego locations. The candy was shot, run over, thrown off a five-story tower, and stomped with a crane."During the entire shoot I chewed on a Peep. It never got smaller. I wondered how we ate them as kids,” Cawthorne told 10News in 2018.The 2002 video shows only children eating the Peeps.Adults may want to take notice. Peeps are gluten-free and fat-free.Since their inception Peeps have crossed over into other holidays as well, now available in a variety of shapes for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and the summer season.Peeps were first created in 1953 by laboriously hand-squeezing marshmallow through pastry tubes, according to Just Born. The process was eventually simplified and brought the production time of the treat from 27 hours down to 6 minutes.As far as the company is concerned, they hope their product retains its freshness year-round. Among their "frequently asked questions" on their website, Just Born says "storing unwrapped marshmallow in a warm, dry place generally results in prematurely stale product."The time it takes to destroy the sugary treat, however, remains up to consumers. 1791

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect after two people were stabbed in the San Diego River Tuesday night. According to police, the stabbing happened on the 500 block of Morena Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. between Old Town and Linda Vista.After the stabbing, the suspect, only described as a man wearing a white shirt, fled the scene. Despite a police helicopter and officers on foot, the suspect managed to escape.Lt. Mike Ramsay said the two victims were hispanic men, ages 18 and 19. One was stabbed in the chest and the other in the stomach. They were taken to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. Ramsay described their condition as "serious but stable."Police closed off Morena Boulevard near Interstate 8 as they searched for the suspect, creating heavy traffic in the area. 10News will continue to keep you updated as soon as we receive more information. 882

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — On Friday, there was confusion and frustration with Poway Unified School District's reopening plans this fall from parents like Mark Meadows. “I think they should make their decisions based on the facts. Not based on something that they made up or something that they misinterpreted,” Meadows said.In a letter sent out earlier this week, PUSD reported, in part, that it planned for the possibility to resume classes in-person after the county was off the state's monitoring list for 14 consecutive days. The letter reads, "However, the new metrics announced to San Diego County superintendents [Tuesday], require our county to be off the monitoring list for two 14-day cycles (a total of 28 consecutive days)."That 28-day part is incorrect, county officials said Friday.PUSD reported to parents that the district would continue with virtual learning through December.On Thursday night, Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps told ABC10 News, “The reason why we chose going to December was that after talking to our district administrators and staff, we wanted some continuity of learning for our children to ensure that so that we could finish whatever option we started with like finish a whole entire quarter or trimester.”“[If this goes through December] it would require us a lot of schedule shifting and possibly paying for some type of tutor or nanny to watch our child while they're at their virtual class during the day,” added Meadows.Dr. Kim-Phelps said she sent the letter after getting new guidelines during a tele-briefing on Tuesday with the county but the county confirmed Friday that PUSD's information is incorrect.Friday afternoon, PUSD reported that was no misunderstanding on its part and directed ABC10 News to a county slide that reads, in part, that on Day 28, schools can reopen for in-person instruction.PUSD added on Friday, “There's no change in our plans." 1909

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police arrested a man they say reportedly stole cell phones and other items from people at SDSU.Anthony Joseph Green was arrested Wednesday on the 6000 block of Lindo Paseo for charges related to burglary and theft in the College Area.According to the victims, Green inquired about cell phones and other items through an app called OfferUp, as well as other online sales apps.RELATED: Aztec students robbed near campus, police search for suspectsGreen is then accused of meeting with victims on campus, stealing the items, then running away without giving the victims cash.According to campus police, all the victims were identified as non-students. 682
