KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 10-year-old German Shepherd named Irgo should be settling into his new home in Kansas but instead he's overseas. Irgo's odyssey began Monday when his owner, Kara Swindle, dropped him off at the airport in Portland, Oregon ahead of the family's move to Wichita. Swindle said Irgo flew United Airlines to Denver where he spent the night. The next day Irgo was scheduled to land at Kansas City International Airport to be reunited with his family at United Airlines' Cargo facility."They took us back to the warehouse, they showed me the kennel, and the minute I said 'Irgo', out pops this Great Dane," Swindle said. "So I instantly burst into tears just wondering where my dog was. I was confused, upset and just in utter shock that this was not my dog."According to Swindle, it took several hours for United to figure out where Irgo was. The Great Dane provided a clue."His paperwork on his food said Japan so at that point they realized that's probably what happened and it got switched up somehow," Swindle said.Swindle received a call from United Airlines early Wednesday morning, that Irgo was, in fact, in Japan.Swindle said United Airlines told her that they're investigating how this happened, but they have offered her a theory."One thing they're thinking right now is that somehow at the pet resort in the Denver airport, when they got taken out of their kennels, to go potty — or whatever they do — they somehow got switched," Swindle said.United Airlines is working with Irgo's family to get him back home. Swindle said Wednesday evening, United has told her they plan to send Irgo on a flight that will land Thursday night in Wichita."They've been sending us updates like crazy. We've been so adamant that they send us pictures every hour letting us know how he is because I don't want anything happening. John Thompson, the first Black man to coach a college basketball team to an NCAA championship and longtime fixture at Georgetown University, has died. He was 78 years old.Thompson's family confirmed the Hall of Famer's death in a statement released by Georgetown University on Monday."We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of our father, John Thmopson, Jr. Our father was an inspiration to many and devoted his life to developing young people not simply on, but most importantly, off the basketball court," the family's statement read. "He is revered as a historic shepherd of the sport, dedicated to the welfare of his community above all us."Thompson, a Washington, D.C. native, played college basketball at Providence College in the 1960s before a brief NBA career with the Boston Celtics, where he won two championships. 846

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The oldest living U.S. Marine celebrated her 107th birthday over the weekend.The U.S. Marine Corps wished Sgt. Dorothy “Dot” Cole a happy birthday in a special video posted on Facebook on Saturday.The USMC says Cole was born on Sept. 19, 1913 in Warren, Pennsylvania, and enlisted in the Marine Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.“Everyone was out doing something, the women helping The Red Cross or even in churches, they were knitting things, so I decided that I wanted to do something and I would go into the Marine Corps,” said Cole in the video.Cole was part of a female integration into what were considered male-dominated career fields within the Marine Corps during World War II, according to the USMC. That allowed the Marines to free up personnel to fight the war in the Pacific.Cole now lives in Kannapolis, North Carolina, according to the city.Happy 107th Birthday to Dot Cole! Sgt. KEYSTONE, Colo. -- A North Carolina man died after hitting a tree while skiing at Keystone Resort in Colorado over the weekend.The Summit County Sheriff's Office said CPR was in progress when deputies responded to the resort shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday.The 32-year-old skier from Raleigh had been on an intermediate trail when he struck the tree, according to the resort. Keystone didn't say which trail the crash occurred on. The victim was transported to Saint Anthony Keystone Medical Clinic, where he was pronounced dead."Keystone Resort, Keystone Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest's family and friends," Keystone Resort Vice President and General Manager Geoff Buchheister said in a written statement.The skier has not yet been identified. 833

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK (KGTV) -- After four days alone in the desert, Paul Hanks was found injured - but alive - Thursday night. The 54-year-old went missing while hiking the Maze Loop on Sunday, March 11, The High Desert Star reports. He left San Diego on Sunday, but never checked into his hotel. The Maze Loop is the same trail where the bodies of Rachel Nguyen and Josseph Orbeso were found near last October, nearly three months after they were reported missing in July. RELATED: Missing couple in Joshua Tree National Park died in murder-suicideHanks' pickup truck was found in the same parking lot as Nguyen and Orbeso. Just after 4 p.m. Thursday a member of the Joshua Park Search and Rescue team located Hanks, Gerorge Land, the park's public information officer said in a Facebook video. "It appears he fell about 20 feet," Land said. "He sustained some head injuries, we don't know the exact nature of all of his injuries...but he was conscious, he was talking to rescuers."10News is working to learn more about Hanks' current condition.
