Germany is China's biggest trade and technology partner in the EU. China and Germany have expanded cooperation in culture, science and technology, education and the military. Xi's is the first state visit to Germany by a Chinese president in eight years. The two sides will map out the relations for the coming 5 to 10 years from a strategic and long-term perspective. Xi will meet with President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel, deliver a key note speech, attend a banquet with business leaders and meet with entrepreneurs from both countries. The two sides will sign cooperation agreements on industry, aviation, science and technology, education, culture and agriculture.

Xi said he paid a successful state visit to Tanzania and held brotherly talks with Kikwete in March last year, and the two sides reached important consensus on building and developing a comprehensive partnership based on mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

On international relations, the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in international affairs and harmonize positions within the United Nations and other multilateral forums to jointly uphold the rights and interests of developing countries, it said.

Zhang hailed the achievements of China-Brazil cooperation since the forging of diplomatic ties 40 years ago, citing fruitful cooperation in areas of energy, mining, finance, agriculture and power.

For her part, the AU chief saluted China as a true friend of Africa and stressed the AU Commission's continuous commitment to playing an active role in boosting the development of Africa-China relations.
