SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As a Hillcrest man showered in his apartment, an intruder was helping himself to a "priceless" pendant. The surveillance video that Ramon Castillo has seen countless times remains hard to watch."Scary and very disturbing," said Castillo. In late June on a Monday morning just before 9, Castillo was showering in his apartment on 3rd Avenue. What he didn't know know: he wasn't alone. When Castillo got out of the shower after 20 minutes, the screen door which had been locked was completely open. Surveillance video revealed why. In it, a man pauses at the door and somehow gets past the screen door, before quietly raiding the apartment. Among the items stolen were speakers and a safe from a bedroom closet. Inside the safe: cash, personal documents and jewelry, including a silver pendant containing the ashes of her mother. She passed away in 2015 from an accidental drug overdose."I can't replace that. It's the last thing of my mom and now I don't have anything," said Castillo. The thief who snatched it was in and out in about five minutes. He was seen driving off in a sedan. Castillo say the burglar had to have heard the shower running and went in anyways."He didn't think twice about it. I fear for the next person he goes after ... he might harm someone," said Castillo. If you do have information on the case, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1399

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Business associations in North Park and Normal Heights are pushing back against a plan organizers say could bring more customers to their parts of town.Leaders from both business improvement districts are expressing coronavirus-related concerns over a scavenger hunt the city and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition are planning beginning Aug. 12 and lasting two weeks. "It's unpredictable, especially in this environment, when you're going to invite people to get out of their house for the first time," said Scott Kessler, who leads the Adams Avenue Business Association. "We just don't know what to expect."Organizers say the event is all about social distancing. Participants download an app called Scavify, which they use to do things like find landmarks or answer trivia questions. Local businesses decide how much they want to be involved. "Most of this engagement is done outside, socially distanced, and it's just about highlighting businesses and community organizations," said Sylvie Froncek, program director at the Bike Coalition. But the business organizations say they are concerned about a lack of organization and late notice. "We welcome shoppers, diners and people in need of essential services but we do not support any gatherings that cannot be managed or overseen for safety protocols. Bike events have traditionally brought great benefit to North Park because of the number of people who see them as a way to connect with friends while enjoying outdoor activity," Angela Landsberg, who directs the North Park Main Street Association, said in a statement. "Unless these events can be managed to ensure proper safety for our community at this time we believe they could do more harm than good."Others say that fear is unfounded. The coalition held a scavenger hunt earlier in July in Imperial Beach, an event Councilman Mark West said was such a big success that they have scheduled another one."No one needs to be afraid of this, they need to embrace it and enjoy it because it's good for businesses, it's good for families and it gets you outside," West said. In a statement, the City of San Diego says the event is a safe and virtual opportunity to support local business. It says it continues to seek creative ways to support local business and encourage healthy options. 2327

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Come February, SeaWorld San Diego is hoping to fill the night sky over Mission Bay with the lights of a drone show. The California Coastal Commission began considering their proposal for a test run at a hearing near San Francisco Thursday. For decades, fireworks capped off a day of summer fun at SeaWorld. A few years ago - amid ongoing concerns over impacts on wildlife, water quality and pets - SeaWorld scaled back the shows, in favor of laser light shows. Now comes another high-flying option in the form of the drone light shows like those that have wowed at places like Universal Studios and Disney World. RELATED: SeaWorld San Diego says new dive coaster 'Mako' coming in 2020SeaWorld applied for a 15-night test run from February 4 through 18. Using GPS technology, more than 500 12-ounce drones would fly up to 400 feet in the sky, forming shapes with on-board lights in a five minute show, accompanied by music on the ground."I think it would be amazing to see it," said Alan Trachman, a Los Angeles resident who has visited SeaWorld San Diego about 15 times.Industry observers believe if successful, the drones could eventually replace some or all of the fireworks shows.RELATED: Groundbreaking held for SeaWorld's Sesame Place San Diego theme park in Chula VistaIf the idea is approved, SeaWorld will be required to monitor noise, light and any bird strikes during the test run. 1416
