(KSTU) -- A woman who disappeared in Utah's Zion National Park before being found 12 days later is reportedly being investigated for fraud in connection to her disappearance.The Salt Lake Tribune reported the Washington County Sheriff's Office is looking into Holly Courtier's story after accounts of her rescue and how she survived with no food or water raised questions within the department.In the days following the rescue, Courtier's daughter -- who lives in San Diego -- said her mother hit her head and became disoriented in the park; while her sister, Jaime Strong, said Holly never drank from a nearby river because it was possibly toxic.Hearing the accounts after Courtier was able to leave Zion National Park with minimal assistance raised red flags to officials, according to a statement released by the Sheriff's Office."These inconsistencies raised some questions as to the authenticity of the events as reported to law enforcement," said Sheriff Cory C. (KGTV/CNS) - Evacuation orders remained in effect Tuesday in light of a fast-moving wildfire that erupted in the Cleveland National Forest the day before.The blaze dubbed the Holy Fire, is five percent contained and has burned at least 3,399 acres as of Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The acreage was downgraded due to more accurate mapping, officials with the Cleveland National Forest said. A total of 10 helicopters and five air tankers are currently on scene assisting firefighters.  539

(KGTV) - The start of a new year will bring significant changes to laws for California drivers, including those with a history of driving under the influence. First time and repeat DUI offenders whose violations resulted in injury will be required to use an ignition interlock device for a period between one and two years. The device is the size of a cell phone and wired into a vehicle’s ignition system. In order to start the vehicle, the driver must blow into the device. The user’s blood alcohol level must be below a pre-set low limit, usually .02, according to the Centers for Disease Control. RELATED: Here are the new laws going into effect on California roads in 2019If a measurable amount of alcohol is detected, the ignition interlock enters a brief lock-out period of a few minutes, with a longer lockout for any subsequently failed test. The system is also capable of detecting mouthwash, which will trigger a positive test until the alcohol dissipates from the driver’s mouth, usually within minutes. Once on the road, the devices have ‘running retests’ which require drivers to blow into the locks at random intervals. If the driver fails, the vehicle’s horn will honk or the lights will flash to alert law enforcement to a violation. The devices aren’t cheap for DUI offenders. They must pay between -150 to install, and about -80 per month for monitoring and calibration. The standards for the devices are established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The CDC has linked ignition interlock devices to lower DUI rates. The agency’s research found repeat offenses dropped about two-thirds due to the locks. Mothers Against Drunk Drivers reports the average drunk driver has driven under the influence 80 times before a first arrest. More than 2 million drunk drivers have had three or more prior convictions, according to MADD. California is one of 31 states to approve the devices. 1941

(KGTV) -- Proposition 22 was approved by California voters on Tuesday, allowing app-based and delivery drivers to be classified as independent contractors.Under Prop. 22, workers would be guaranteed an hourly wage and sick leave.The proposition also states that drivers who work more than 15 hours per week would qualify for a monthly health insurance stipend, new medical and disability benefits if injured on the job, and new rules pertaining to rest periods, sexual harassment, and criminal background checks.Supporters say Prop. 22 protects app-based drivers’ choice to be independent contractors. The proposition is also endorsed by a majority of drivers, community members, and small business groups.Those opposed to Prop. 22 say a “no” vote stops companies from writing their own exemption to California law. Opponents also say the proposition denies drivers rights and safety protections.Proposition 22 was launched and partially funded by Lyft and Uber.
