SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police officers will increase patrols near area houses of worship following Saturday's deadly shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue.SDPD Chief David Nisleit advised there are no indications of any threats with a connection to San Diego, but out of an abundance of caution, patrols would be increased."We are monitoring the situation in Pittsburgh and communicating with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are asking the pubic for help identifying a group of suspects they say assaulted a male outside a Pacific Beach restaurant this month.Police said the victim got into an argument with a group of men outside Backyard Bar and Grill on Garnet Ave. on April 1, at about 1:30 a.m. During the argument, one of the suspects punched the victim in the face three times.After the victim walked across the street to get away from the group, the suspects followed him and repeatedly punched and kicked him while he was on the ground, police added.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with major head and facial injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police officers babysat for a man who needed to go to the hospital Friday night but didn't have anyone to watch his two young daughters. According to the department, officers received a radio call from a young father living in the Alpha apartments. The man reportedly told authorities he was in need of hospital care. “Unfortunately, he had no family or friends to help watch the girls,” the department said.After the man was taken to the hospital, two officers stayed behind to watch the 2-year-old and 4-year-old before taking them to the hospital where they were reunited with their dad.“Dad was emotional and grateful for the support. If someone needs help, we'll be there to respond,” the department continued in the Facebook post.No emergency is too small for our officers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police officers are getting a new chance to buy a home in the city that they serve.This week, the city launched a public-private partnership that allows eligible officers to get up to a ,000 interest free loan that can go toward a down payment for a home. "We're not here to help people buy million dollar homes or anything like that," said Councilman Chris Cate. Already, the City Council has approved recruitment bonuses, and a series of salary raises for officers. An entry-level officer now makes about ,000 per year. "Several of our officers have had to move outside of the county because the price of homes keeps going up and up and up," said Jack Schaeffer, who heads the San Diego Police Officers Association. Eligible officers would need to contribute 3.5 percent of the purchase price in cash. They would also need to pay back the interest-free loan within five years. 1257

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police identified Monday the man shot and killed in the Shelltown neighborhood. Ricardo Moran, 49, was identified as one of two men who was shot on S. 42nd Street Saturday at 1:35 a.m. Officers received multiple 911 calls about gunshots. When they reached the scene, they found Moran and an unidentified 56-year-old man suffering from injuries. Witnesses heard a vehicle speeding away following the gunshots but were not able to provide a description. Moran died at the hospital. The second victim is expected to survive, police said.
