SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspect wanted for breaking into an apartment in Imperial Beach and allegedly sexually assaulting a woman while she slept was in custody Thursday evening.Alfred Ruiz-Sandoval, 24, is accused of sneaking in through a window to fondle a woman in her home early the morning of Sept. 3 in the 1300 block of Hemlock Avenue, near Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, according to Lt. Chad Boudreau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The victim called 911 about 5 a.m. to report the invasion and sexual battery and told investigators the suspect ran from her home when she awoke. Officials believe the perpetrator got into the home by removing a screen from her open bedroom window.Currently, Ruiz-Sandoval is in federal custody on unrelated charges, and sheriff's detectives have obtained a separate arrest warrant, Boudreau said. 866

Many nonessential businesses will be required to move to outdoor-only operations. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Flames tore through a large commercial building in the Morena area Friday, causing extensive damage and sending a thick plume of smoke into the air near Mission Bay.The blaze in the 1200 block of Morena Boulevard erupted about 5:40 p.m., the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported.Police closed down the north-south street to through traffic while firefighters worked to subdue the intense flames.Crews were still working to get the blaze under control as of 6:30 p.m. and trying to get inside the two-story structure to check on a report there might be someone inside, according to SDFRD public affairs.There were no immediate reports of injuries. 677

Gavin Newsom will concluded his "California for All'' Health Care Tour in San Diego Saturday by holding a rally to reaffirm his position on women's reproductive health services.Newsom had been on on the promotional tour since Tuesday, stopping in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento to discuss the health care initiatives in his proposed budget for the 2020 fiscal year.According to Newsom, his proposed initiatives would lower health care costs, expand on former President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act and make progress toward a single-payer health care system.The program would also bring back the Obamacare-era healthcare mandate that penalizes anyone who doesn't have healthcare coverage. Should state legislators approve Newsom's proposed budget, it would expand Medi-Cal coverage to adults ages 19-25 in California without illegally, offer subsidies to middle-income families with private health insurance and allocate 0 million for reproductive and sexual health care education and programs."No state has more at stake on the issue of health care.
