The Senate delivered a high-profile rebuke to President Donald Trump over his signature agenda issue Thursday when 12 Republicans joined Democrats to overturn the President's national emergency border declaration. The vote was 59-41, an overwhelming vote against the President's executive action.Lawmakers don't have enough votes, however, to override a certain veto from the President, but passage of the resolution in the Senate after it passed the House last month is nevertheless an embarrassing blow to Trump delivered by his own party over the President's top campaign pledge of a wall at the US-Mexico border. The setback for the President also comes on the heels of another high-profile break with his administration after the Senate 752

Three Nevada men with ties to a loose movement of right-wing extremists advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government have been arrested on terror charges in what authorities say was a conspiracy to spark violence during recent protests in Las Vegas. Prosecutors said Wednesday the white men with U.S. military experience face conspiracy charges stemming from a plan that began in conjunction with protests to reopen businesses closed because of COVID-19. They say the men later sought to capitalize on protests over the death of a Minneapolis man in police custody. FBI agents arrested them Saturday en route to a Las Vegas protest with gas cans and Molotov cocktails. 683

The Senate committee that oversees the US aviation industry will hold a hearing on air safety, following the weekend's deadly crash in Ethiopia, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation announced Tuesday."It is important to allow the FAA, NTSB and other agencies to conduct thorough investigations to ensure they have as much information as possible to make informed decisions," said Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi in his statement. "Thousands of passengers every day depend on the aviation system to get them safely to their destinations, and we must never become complacent with the level of safety in our system. Therefore, the committee plans to hold a hearing reviewing the state of aviation safety to ensure that safety is maintained for all travelers."The announcement of the hearing follows days of lawmakers asking questions about and some demanding the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which was not only the model of plane that crashed over the weekend but also was the same type of vessel that went down over the Java Sea last October in a separate deadly cash.Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, who sits on the committee, said Tuesday he's told his family and others to switch planes rather than fly on the Boeing 737 MAX 8. 1325
