SAN DIEGO,Calif. (KGTV) -- A North San Diego County mother died early Sunday morning and the father of her children has been arrested, authorities said.San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to calls of a possible shooting just after midnight at a home on 25969 Duro Rd. in Valley Center, according to Lt. Chad Boudreau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.When deputies arrived, they found an adult female suffering from a traumatic injury. The victim was rushed to Palomar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, said Boudreau.The victim was identified as Mayra Meraz, 31. Her injuries were not made available at this time.The suspect, Anthony Daniel Chaloux, 42, was arrested and booked into jail for murder.According to Boudreau, the suspect and the victim were in a domestic relationship and have two children together.Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330/after hours at (858) 565-5200. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- One lucky couple will spend the rest of their lives together after crossing the finish line at America's Finest City half marathon together. The couple got engaged at the finish line in Balboa Park.The half marathon kicked off at the Cabrillo National Monument. Participants ran through Point Loma, past the San Diego Bay, the Embarcadero and ended in Balboa Park.The half-marathon is part of a series of racing called the Triple Crown, which means if runners participated in the La Jolla and Carlsbad marathons, they received a special medal today. Proceeds from the race go to several local charities.  660

SAN DIEGO (KGTV): The San Diego Sheriff's Department has a new tool to help keep deputies safe as they fight the war on drugs.The department just bought 15 TruNarc devices. The hand-held scanners can detect and identify drugs without the deputies having to come into physical contact.Previously, to determine what kind of drug was present at a crime scene, law enforcement would have to scoop a small amount into a kit for testing. The TruNarc uses laser technology to scan through plastic bags.This technology has become increasingly important with the rise of drugs like Fentanyl. Just a microscopic amount can cause an overdose, which has made first responders wary of handling it.The TruNarc can identify more than 200 different drugs and takes less than 2 minutes to complete the scan and give a presumptive result.San Diego Sheriff's Deputies used it earlier this month when they encountered an unconscious man in San Marcos. He was covered in white powder. Deputies called for the scanner and found the powder was Fentanyl. They called for a hazmat team to clean the scene. Officials with the department say the device likely saved the man's life, as he was able to get the medical help he needed. They say it also may have saved the officers, who didn't have to touch the man or the powder until after the scene had been made safe.The devices cost ,400 each. A grant from the Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association helped pay for them. One has been given to each sub-station around the county. There is also one at every jail and another at the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area office. 1617

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --Jurors found ex-NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II guilty Monday on three counts including rape, lewd conduct, and indecent exposure.Around 4 p.m. Monday, the jury sent another note indicating that they remained deadlocked on the remaining eight counts.
