SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- All evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted following a brush fire that erupted in San Diego's Talmadge neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. The fire started after 1 p.m. on Fairmont Avenue and Aldine Drive near Central Elementary School. The fire could be seen burning up a canyon in the area as smoke billowed into nearby neighborhoods. At times, flames came within 200 feet of homes. Evacuations were briefly ordered for Norma Drive, Constance Drive and Natalie Drive. The Hoover High School football field had been set up as a temporary shelter.RELATED: Check today's forecastThe fire also knocked out power to thousands in the area, but electricity was restored around 5 p.m. The fire sparked amid elevated fire weather concerns. Gusty offshore winds are expected in the mountains and foothills through Wednesday with afternoon humidity between 15 and 25 percent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A surveillance photo released by the FBI and San Diego Police Tuesday may help them find the man who robbed a Clairemont bank.The white man, in his late 20s or early 30s, demanded cash from a teller at the Wells Fargo Bank inside the Vons grocery store at 4725 Clairemont Drive in Clairemont Town Centere on December 30.Police said the man used a note and no weapon was seen or used.The teller gave the man cash and he walked away.Investigators describe the man as about 5’11” with an average build. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, white shirt, red shorts, black sneakers and a baseball cap at the time of the robbery.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police. 713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Albertsons Companies confirmed Saturday an employee of an Escondido grocery store tested positive for COVID-19.The company said the store will remain open, and "will continue to follow an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process in every department."Public Affairs Director Melissa Hill said that the employee is receiving care and has not worked at the store since March 24. Hill said the Escondido store has been through multiple sanitizing and disinfecting cycles, and used third-party expert service.Hill said the store is monitoring other staff for symptoms."Following CDC guidelines, our Crisis Response Team may recommend that additional members of the store team self-quarantine. These employees will be eligible to receive up to 14 days of quarantine pay," said Hill.The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 President Todd Walters said they have been working with companies to get higher safety measures into the workplaces of members.He said three members of the union tested positive as of Saturday. He said they were all at different locations in San Diego County."We're encouraging and asking the members to 1. Make sure they get their social distance. 2. We want them to get time every 30 minutes to stop, wash their hands and clean their work stations," he said.Walters said Plexiglas has been installed at check out stands to protect workers at Albertsons and Vons, and next week Ralphs and Food For Less will see the same installation.He said employees are tired from the long shifts and urged the public to realize supplies aren't going anywhere. "Please don't shop unless you have to, there's no need to horde. If you see these retail workers, not just grocery, but our drug store members, or other retail entities, give them space. If they're trying to work and you need something, call out to them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego public figure is speaking out after being hit three times by distracted drivers over 8 years.Monica Zech is the Public Information Officer for the City of El Cajon. Her passion is public safety, specifically behind the wheel. She started as a Traffic Reporter in 1984 and had a 30-year career in broadcasting. She immediately found out, through reporting on first responders, how many crashes were preventable. "When my father was hit about eight years after that, when I started lecturing, then the DUI issue became prevalent," Zech said her father was walking across the street in a marked cross-walk when a drunk driver hit him in 1992.August 29th, 2011 a distracted driver ran a red light slamming into her. The crash was so violent surgeons told her she should've been paralyzed, "it was shocking to hear that. They said is this your MRI? Are you sure? I said I'm sure that's my MRI. They said well we're surprised you're sitting here, you should be paralyzed. We have patients with the same MRI and they're in a wheelchair."She now has a titanium plate that straightens her spine and protects her in case she is in a future crash.The next crash was in traffic on I-5, February of 2017. "I kept noticed his head bobbing down, looking down, I realized he was on his cell phone and wham! He hits me from behind," she said.Tuesday she was hit from behind again. This time she says she stopped at a red light about to turn onto I-8 Eastbound from La Mesa Boulevard. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A transit security officer stabbed a man who tried to grab his service pistol at the Old Town Transit Center Friday, San Diego Police said. The encounter was reported at 1 p.m. at the station at 4009 Taylor St. Police said the armed officer was attacked by a man who “violently pulled” on the gun in the holster in an attempt to remove it. The officer kept his weapon and defended himself with his duty knife, stabbing the man in the torso, according to police. Despite his injury, the unidentified man ran away. He was later found under a nearby bridge and taken into custody, police said. The security officer had minor injuries to his face from being punched. 689
