SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Qualcomm employees reporting Wednesday the company is laying off workers in San Diego.The San Diego Workforce Partnership confirmed that 1,231 workers will be laid off by June 19 from the company's Sorrento Valley headquarters.Three employees, one reached in person the other two by phone, tell 10News they believe many more will be let go at other locations, including San Jose, Santa Clara, New Jersey and in Europe. A Qualcomm spokesperson told 10News the layoffs are part of a "cost reduction" plan introduced at the beginning of this year: 602

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for a man who reportedly grabbed three women on three separate occasions before running away.The most recent incident was reported on Feb. 25, at about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Iris Ave. and Oro Vista Rd. A 22-year-old woman was walking when an unknown man walking in the opposite direction grabbed the woman's breasts and ran away, San Diego Police said.The incident is similar to two others reported in the same area.The first one, on Oct. 30, 2017, happened at about 7:30 p.m. and the second on Jan. 17, 2018, at about 9:30 p.m. Both occurred in the 1500 block of Oro Vista Rd. with a similarly described suspect who grabbed the women and ran away.The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, about 5-foot-6, and weighing about 220 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - President Donald Trump said San Diego "needs a wall" while he toured eight border wall prototypes along the county's southern border Tuesday.During his visit, the president stopped intermittently during his inspection of the structures to discuss the wall and, at times, slam the state over its immigration policies."For the people that say no wall, if you didn't have walls over here you wouldn't even have a country," Trump said at the prototypes. "And, by the way, the state of California is begging us to build walls in certain areas. They don't tell you that."Trump went on to view more of the prototypes, before stopping once again to discuss the new structures."A part of San Diego needs a wall, they want a wall very desperately," Trump said. "They're willing to do anything to get it. I said 'nope, approve the whole wall, California.'"Trump said he favors a wall with see-through capabilities with steel and concrete. He added that Border Patrol had "done a fantastic job" in constructing the prototypes.The president was asked about comments from California Governor Jerry Brown, who has slammed Trump's border wall and called for other projects to receive funding."I think Gov. Brown has done a very poor job of running California ... The place is totally out of control," Trump criticized.Trump went on to slam Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who reportedly urged undocumented immigrants in the area to take precautions ahead of a series of immigration raids.Before heading back to MCAS Miramar to speak with service members, Trump stopped to deliver his final remarks on his tour and the wall."The border wall is truly our first line of defense. It'll save thousands and thousands of lives. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents in Pacific Beach are calling on more enforcement at the Crown Point Elementary field.During school hours the field is only open to elementary students and then opens to the public 30 minutes before and after. Mariluci Byrnes has a daughter who plays on the field with the Pacific Youth Soccer League. She says many dog owners ignore city signs warning it's a violation to take your dog off-leash and to not pick up after them.  “Just not a good combination when you have kids playing and there’s poop all over the place," said Byrnes.Byrnes says kids and parents often step in dog poop and she worries an off-leash dog could injure a child.  The field is now in the San Diego Humane Society’s (SDHS) jurisdiction. An SDHS spokesperson confirms they’ve gotten complaints about the issue, but sometimes other calls involving safety take priority over off-leash dogs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- On Thursday, January 3, the newest members of Congress will head to Washington D.C. to be sworn in. Among them is Mike Levin, who will represent California's 49th Congressional District. Levin, an environmental attorney, ran a campaign focused on younger voters. During the campaign, he cast his opponent, Diane Harkey as a “rubber stamp" for President Donald Trump. The district was previously represented by Darrell Issa. Juan Varges of the 51st Congressional District will also head to Washington. Varges made headlines recently after pointing the finger at the Trump administration for the situation at the border after hundreds of migrants rushed the San Ysidro Port of Entry. The 51st Congressional District consists of south San Diego County, Imperial County and California’s entire U.S./Mexico border. Also in Washington for the swearing in is Congressman Scott Peters of California’s 52nd District. The district includes the cities of Coronado and Poway as well as most of northern San Diego. Peters was first elected in 2012. In 2018, Peters introduced legislation to provide a tax credit who paid more than 30 percent of their gross income on rent and utilities. Rep. Susan Davis was re-elected in 2018 and represents California’s 53rd Congressional District. The district stretches from I-5 and Balboa Park through Mission Valley to East County and includes much of the heart of San Diego.Davis has been serving the district since 2001 and in 2018, won against her opponent, Morgan Murtaugh. Heading to Washington also is Congressman Duncan Hunter of California’s 50th Congressional District.
