CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - Coronado city leaders will begin cracking down on the dockless bicycle trend rolling around San Diego, imposing fines and impounding bikes left on the island.City leaders have moved to declare the transportation alternative a public nuisance and will start impounding bikes left in the city. Coronado has banned bike-sharing companies from setting up shop on the island, but riders are allowed to pick them up and ride them into the city.Therein lies Coronado's problem. Much like the trend around San Diego, Coronado residents have grown concerned with bikes being left on sidewalks and in the right-of-way.Ken Hewitt is one of several local bike shop owners who fought to keep the bikes off the island. "Every bike you see going by there is a potential rental," he said. "We're a small island here.  San Diego's got a lot more real estate and a lot more spaces."So, now the city plans to tag any bikes left in the public-right-of-way, remove them, and charge the companies - to pick them up. The bikes are GPS-enabled, so the city and residents say the companies should know exactly where to find them. 1174

Several of those arrested were in possession of firearms, condoms, lubricant, sex toys and drugs. Each case will be presented to a Cuyahoga County grand jury.“As we have seen the number of Cybertips dramatically increase this year, it is clear that online predators remain a serious threat to our children,” said O’Malley in a release. “Hopefully the success of yet another operation serves as a stern warning to offenders that you will be found, you will be arrested, and you will be prosecuted."This article was written by Kaylyn Hlavaty for WEWS. 2762

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers could explore bringing in Colin Kaepernick for a workout depending on what happens during the preseason, but right now, nothing is scheduled. Coach Anthony Lynn says Kaepernick is on the team's workout list because he fits the style the Chargers are looking for. "I'm very confident and happy with the three quarterbacks that I have, but you can never have too many people waiting on the runway," Lynn said, per ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.Per NFL Network's Omar Ruiz, Lynn thinks that Kaepernick “fits the style of quarterback for the system we’ll be running.” 613

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Coronado bookstore that’s been a fixture of the landscape for nearly three decades will be able to move a few doors down thanks to a decision by the City Council. In 2018, a developer bought up nearly a whole block of Orange Avenue and Bay Books was only paying a fraction of market rent. Owner Angelica Muller told 10News in February that the store was considering a move down the block, but would have to sell coffee and pastries to stay in business. RELATED: New hope beloved Coronado bookstore will find new homeTuesday night, Coronado’s Mayor Richard Bailey announced that the city council took action that allows the store to offer coffee service. “We believe this policy will be helpful to our downtown business community and is a win for Coronado,” Bailey said. CINCINNATI, Ohio – The national “If You Give a Child a Book …” campaign will distribute over 165,000 books to kids in low-income households across the country this school year after raising 5,369 during its annual fundraiser this fall. The childhood literacy campaign is led by the Scripps Howard Foundation and supported by employees of The E.W. Scripps Company, members of the Scripps family and communities where Scripps does business in more than 40 markets across the country. The campaign helps Scripps fulfill its vision of creating a better-informed world.Beginning January 2021, each Scripps TV station and national brand will partner with schools and nonprofits in their communities to ensure the books go to children who need them most, whether they are learning in a traditional classroom setting, remotely or a hybrid of the two.Since the campaign’s first year in 2016, more than 352,000 new books have been donated to children facing poverty in communities served by Scripps businesses. With the additional funds raised through this year’s campaign, the total number of distributed books will surpass 500,000.The first ,000 raised during the campaign was matched through a generous gift from The Kroger Co. Foundation. Additionally, members of the Scripps family matched Scripps employee gifts toward the campaign and granted each Scripps station a match of ,000 toward their local campaigns.“Having access to books at an early age is an important predictor of a child’s success. In fact, kids who learn to read are more likely to graduate, to vote and to be civically involved,” said Liz Carter, president and CEO of the Scripps Howard Foundation. “That is why the need this year is particularly urgent, with the pandemic affecting access to books for many families. We are blown away by the generosity shown during such a historic year – it’s a true testament to Scripps’ commitment to the communities they serve daily and the collective impact we can achieve for the future of thousands of kids across the country.”Scripps businesses place high priority on giving back to their local communities, including raising more than million for food banks across the country in June.Learn more and donate at ifyougiveabook.com. 2254
