A St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, family is questioning why a man is still in jail despite being acquitted on murder charges. Davien Bell was set free in October after he was acquitted in connection with a fatal shooting from March 2016, but shortly after he was released he was brought back into custody. Two months later he's still in jail. "He spent three years and eight months in prison..wrongfully," Bell's uncle Chanse Joubert said. Bell's family says those years are moments they can't get back. However, in October when Bell was set free they were hoping they could make new memories."He was free off all charges," Joubert said. "The next morning we received a phone call that he needed to go back to jail and be released properly." However, Bell hasn't been released. According to the District Attorney, he's being held on other pending charges. "On March 21, 2016 Damien Bell was arrested at the Yambilee building on theft and possession of an illegal firearm," Joubert said. "Two days later his father received a phone call that he needed to report to an interrogation station because they had evidence connecting him to the homicide." "He's been acquitted of murder charges and they're still detaining him based on something he allegedly did," Bell's mother Michelle Joubert said. "They could've handled that in court, during the three years he was there and they didn't."According to the D.A., it wasn't until after Bell's release that they realized he had pending charges. Jury selection for those charges is set for February. "He been in there for three years and eight months," said Bell's father David Wayne Bell Sr. "He missed a lot of holidays, friendships and everything. What they're doing is not justice. A New Jersey teenager is proving that you can do anything if you just set your mind to it.Despite being in and out of homelessness, 17-year-old Dylan Chidick has been accepted into 17 different colleges -- and that's just what he's received so far."I was really excited because I'm going to be the first person in my family to go to college," Chidick said.He added, "Going through homelessness let me know that there's going to be obstacles, but as long as (our family is) together, we can get through it."With offers from schools like Albright College, Ramapo College and Caldwell University, Chidick has a tough decision ahead. However he's still waiting to hear back from his top choice, the College of New Jersey. He applied to about 20 colleges and universities in total. Sending in applications can get pricey, but Chidick was able to obtain application fee waivers. He was inspired by his mom's courageChidick's family moved to the US from Trinidad when Chidick was just 7 years old, but after becoming citizens, they endured countless heartaches. The single mother, Khadine Phillip, and her three kids were in and out of homelessness. And Chidick's two younger twin brothers live with serious heart conditions.Chidick said he was inspired by his mother's courage to reach out to the non-profit Women Rising and ask for help. The center put the family in permanent supportive housing, giving Chidick a safe place to study."Seeing my family become vulnerable and opening themselves up to accepting help is basically what created my drive to never experience that ever again," Chidick said. The student said experiencing homelessness and balancing school was difficult."There was lights out at a certain time, and we weren't able to be the way that we usually are at home," Chidick said.At school, Chidick was initially hesitant to let others know about his situation."The entire administration staff was very supportive, but I didn't want anyone to know about it at first," he said. "But I realized it was OK to let people in."Chidick worked to become the senior class president at Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City and was inducted into the Honor Society. He also served on the city-wide student council and said he tried to "float around" to every club.He hopes to study political science and historyAfter he picks his home for the next few years, Chidick hopes to major in political science and minor in history."I like the politics side of everything and understanding how the government works," Chidick said.History is his favorite subject, so he plans to take plenty of courses in that subject as well. 2628

A white rhino born last month at San Diego Zoo Safari Park has been named Future for what the calf represents to rhino conservation worldwide, officials said. The baby is bonding with her mother and frolicking in a maternity yard left wet by recent storms. “Future’s new favorite thing is mud,” zookeeper Marco Zeno said. “She sees a puddle and she wants to roll in it!” Future is the 100th southern white rhino to be born at the park and the second conceived through artificial insemination. The first, Edward, was born to a different mother in July. The zoo births using frozen sperm are part of efforts to develop knowledge needed to save a subspecies called the northern white rhino, officials said. Only two currently remain and both are female. Several other rhino species also are being pushed to toward extinction.Future was born Nov. 21 to an 11-year-old mother named Amani. At 19 days old, the baby weighed 193 pounds (88 kilograms). She could weigh 20 times that when fully grown.Rhinos typically coat themselves with a thick layer of mud that helps act as a sunscreen and bug repellent, and helps to keep them cool. ”Future is not only exhibiting natural rhino behavior, she appears to be having a ton of fun doing it,” Zeno said. 1253

A Tulsa, Oklahoma, woman is urging brides to use more caution when selecting a wedding photographer than she did. "I was planning this since I was a little girl and it turned out just the way I wanted it and I have no pictures," Natalie Barney said. Barney was on a tight budget for her big day. "I just wanted a small wedding, but it had to be big enough for everyone to see my pink dress," Barney said. When she saw an advertisement for an "affordable" photographer on Facebook, she clicked on it. The bride-to-be messaged April Keller, owner of Queen Bee Photography - Stillwater, who she said quoted her 0 for 100 photos. "I saw her pictures on Facebook and they looked good," Barney said. It was a photo of a bride in her wedding dress surrounded by her bridesmaid in pink dresses that caught her eye. Queen Bee's post said "Wedding Samples" and showed several other stunning wedding photos. An online image search found the photos were on Pinterest and linked back to websites for designers, like Hayley Paige and Jenny Yoo. Barney did not know that at the time she booked. She said she met up with Keller before the wedding and provided her with a list of about 40 photos she wanted, including shots with her bridesmaids, close family, of her cake and so on. The two also agreed Keller was also going to be in charge of taking photos at a photo booth at the reception. August 1 was her big day. She said that was the day she started worrying. "She was trying to take pictures off of his flash," Barney said about Keller. "She was waiting for him to take a picture and whenever he would take a picture, she would take a picture."At the wedding, Barney said Keller admitted she was having camera issues and her flash did not work. Barney said she was worried about her photos from that moment on. "She messaged me [after the wedding] and asked if I could get the pictures my 10-year old niece took so she could edit those," Barney said. Barney was sent a handful of pictures through Facebook messenger but not near the 100 she paid for. "There are only three that are good pictures," the bride said. "They are pictures that I could have taken." In Facebook messages provided by Barney, Keller admits the pictures did not turn out well. It was heartbreaking news for the bride because she had family fly in from out of state for the occasion. As a consolation, Barney said Keller offered her a free family photo shoot with her children and grandchildren. On the day of the shoot, about 10 members of Barney's family went to the location they chose in coordinating outfits, but Keller did not show up. "I didn't think I could be more hurt than I was after my wedding and that happened and then I just gave up," Barney said. Keller said over the phone that her husband had health issues after Barney's wedding. She also said she is not operating Queen Bee Photography any more. A post on the business's Facebook page a day after a reporter spoke to Keller on the phone said, "I'm closing this company to open the chapter of my life if you get an invite from me please accept."We found a new photography business that her name and phone number are listed on called A-game Photography. "You get what you pay for," Barney said. "You get what you pay for. If you're going to try to save money on any part of your wedding, don't let it be the photographer." 3367

After eliminating free samples at its locations in March due to the spread of the coronavirus, Costco said on its quarterly earnings call this week that it plans on resuming samples in mid-June. Costco has made significant changes within stores in recent months due to the virus. Costco resumed May 4 after reducing hours, but is now requiring customers and employees to wear masks. Costco has also placed limits on some fresh meats. “We're going to start doing some things in mid-June on a slow rollout basis in sampling,” Costco CFO Richard Galanti said. “I can't tell you anymore, but needless to say it’s not going to be where you go and just pick up an open sample with your fingers. Sampling both food and non-food items are popular.”Galanti said resuming sampling is important in making customers excite to return to Costco stores. Sam’s Club also made a similar decision in March to eliminate samples in stores. 932
