SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying and finding a man suspected of intentionally setting a fire in San Diego’s Little Italy area.On July 18, at around 3:45 a.m., a man allegedly lit a recycling dumpster on fire that was against a wall of the Mona Lisa Italian Foods on 2061 India Street.Authorities said the fire spread to the building and a delivery van parked near the dumpster.The blaze caused ,000 in damage.The man suspected in the arson case is white or Hispanic in his mid 20s to early 30s. He appears to be balding, unshaven and has a stocky build.Authorities said the man was shirtless at the time of the incident, but he was wearing skinny jeans and dark-colored loafer-style shoes.The man also has a large vertical tattoo along the right side of his rib cage.Anyone with information on the suspected arsonist or the incident is asked to contact the Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) at 619-236-6815 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to ,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case. 1110

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dangerous rescues are on the rise on the cliffs along San Diego's coastline.Broken bones, medical emergencies, even death: these are just some of the calls to San Diego Lifeguards, tasked with performing these rescues. According to a recent Team10 investigation, those calls to lifeguards have doubled in the past four years."We're out here assisting people on a weekly basis," lifeguard Lt. Rick Romero said. "It's pretty dangerous; people can fall, people have fallen, people have died, people have suffered traumatic injuries."Romero said lifeguards average 70 to 100 rescues a year at Sunset Cliffs and Black's Beach. The less-serious calls have been anything from people getting stuck, to medical emergencies, to hikers simply getting lost. The more serious calls involved traumatic injuries and death.RELATED: Cliff, air rescues on the rise in San Diego CountyAccording to data 10News requested from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and San Diego Lifeguards, there have been 74 cliff rescue calls from June 2017 to the beginning of October 2018. Of those calls, nine serious injuries and one death have occurred this year at Sunset Cliffs. Black's Beach had 11 serious injury calls.Romero said the uptick could be explained as the secret spots no longer being secret."We've seen population growth, tourism growth, social media growth...all affect just more people coming down," Romero said.Lifeguards are on duty 24/7 to help in these situations. Cliff rescues have become so common, rope skills are now as basic for them as work in the water.Carrying 40 to 50 pounds of gear each, typically seven lifeguards and three trucks respond to most cliff rescues. Romero said while each rescue is different, most take 45 minutes to an hour to complete.Resources are pulled from other areas along the beach. If rescue crews need to use a helicopter, the cost is more than ,000 an hour to operate.The rescues are paid for by taxpayers, provided by the city, no matter if the patient is a victim of an accident or reckless."We just ask people to bring their cell phones, pay attention to where they're going, have sturdy footwear," Romero said. 2193

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Apple says it will temporarily close all of its California storefronts, as the number of coronavirus cases surge in the state, according to multiple media reports.The company's Golden State locations, including stores in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Escondido, and two in San Diego, were all listed online as "temporarily closed" on Saturday.Apple says each store will be open for pickup of existing online orders, previously scheduled in-store Genius Support appointments, and previously reserved one-on-one shopping appointments made through Tuesday, Dec. 22.No date was listed online for when the stores would fully reopen.The closures come as California continues to see a surge in COVID-19 cases. But we've also seen humanity pull together in acts of service and sacrifice.For RN Ana Wilkinson it's a calling born from her childhood, a past not without pain.When Wilkinson arrived in New York City in the midst of the pandemic. She was unprepared for what she witnessed. Put on the floor that night, Wilkinson was given 15 COVID patients. Despite all her efforts, she would lose 8 patients that night. While she says some nurses quit the next day, she decided to stay and "just be Ana." For Ana that meant an unorthodox approach to the sickest patients. She would smile, hold their hands, and dance.Behind her mask of optimism were a lifetime of pain, loss, and sorrow. Something she tries to make better for her patients and their families.At around three years old Ana and her family immigrated to the U.S from Nicaragua as refugees. Childhood was difficult. Her mother's alcoholism would lead to abuse. Abuse and neglect would lead to Ana being put in a foster home. Some days she went to school with bruises.All this Ana says makes her see things differently. She believes it helps her to be more compassionate as a nurse. She is now happily married to a firefighter and has two young boys but volunteering to provide medical care where it's needed is an important part of her life. Whether it's New York City or other countries around the world, Wilkinson answers the call. Always ready to be there in a patient's darkest hours... hoping just maybe her smile can bring light.As part of this story Hunt interviewed Del Mar Clinical Psychologist, and international personality expert, Dr. Richard Levak. Levak has been tasked by American television series such as Survivor, Apprentice, and The Amazing Race to analyze personalities to determine capable candidates and group dynamics.
