The Chinese president called on Italy to better dovetail its development strategy with China's Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese initiative, which comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, aspires to build a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road routes.
They made the pledge during a friendly official visit to Vietnam by Zhang Dejiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.
"China attaches importance to Belgium's crucial and unique influence in the European Union," Zhang said during his talks with Speaker of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives Siegfried Bracke in Beijing.
