FULTON COUNTY — A jury has found a woman guilty on all counts for hitting and killing three children and seriously injuring a fourth as they attempted to get on a school bus last year.Sentencing for Alyssa Shepherd will be held Dec. 18.Closing arguments wrapped up this afternoon in the case against Shepherd who is accused of striking and killing 6-year-old twins Mason and Xzavier Ingle and their 9-year-old sister Alivia Stahl in October 2018. Police and prosecutors have alleged Shepherd drove past a school bus stop arm near Rochester. A fourth child, Maverik Lowe, 11 at the time, was also struck and seriously injured. Lowe survived.Shepherd was charged with three counts of reckless homicide, one count of passing a school bus causing injury and one count of criminal recklessness resulting in serious bodily injury."The biggest thing with it is the total lack of braking the amount of distance that was covered and seeing something in the roadway on a Tuesday morning when it's school time and just barreling into it not slowing down. We felt like was just unacceptable," Fulton County Prosecutor Mike Marrs said.The childrens' mother, Brittany Ingle, spoke to reporters afterward and said she did not believe Shepherd showed any remorse at the trial."What I want to tell you as a mother, from one mother to another, when I was sitting up there giving my testimony, I looked at her straight in the eyes because you just want some feeling you just want something. and she gave nothing," Ingle said. "I was crying telling them how I found my sons in the road and she had no remorse, no emotion, and that hurt worse because she acted as if our kids were in the way, and if they were, they kind of ruined her life and she ruined ours."According to RTV6's newsgathering partner, WROI Giant FM Radio, Shepherd took the stand in her own defense.Shepherd testified she didn't take State Road 25 often, perhaps a couple times a week and not usually that early or late at night, WROI reported. Former Trump presidential campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced to 47 months in federal prison after having a plea bargain revoked after Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team claimed Manafort was not cooperative with Mueller's investigation. Mueller's team asked for 19-25 years. Manafort's sentence is the longest so far handed down by a judge during Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling into 2016 election. The charges claims Manafort was guilty of conspiracy to defraud the United States, money laundering, failing to register as a foreign lobbyist, making false statements to investigators, and witness tampering, the Washington Post reported. He then pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiracy in another federal court. He will be sentenced for those crimes next week. For the first time, an object in our solar system has been found more than 100 times farther than Earth is from the sun.The International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center announced the discovery Monday, calling the object 2018 VG18. But the researchers who found it are calling it "Farout."They believe the spherical object is a dwarf planet more than 310 miles in diameter, with a pinkish hue. That color has been associated with objects that are rich in ice, and given its distance from the sun, that isn't hard to believe. Its slow orbit probably takes more than 1,000 years to make one trip around the sun, the researchers said.The distance between the Earth and the sun is an AU, or astronomical unit -- the equivalent of about 93 million miles. Farout is 120 AU from the sun. Eris, the next most distant object known, is 96 AU from the sun. For reference, Pluto is 34 AU away.The object was found by the Carnegie Institution for Science's Scott S. Sheppard, the University of Hawaii's David Tholen and Northern Arizona University's Chad Trujillo -- and it's not their first discovery.The team has been searching for a super-Earth-size planet on the edge of our solar system, known as Planet Nine or Planet X, since 2014. They first suggested the existence of this possible planet in 2014 after finding "Biden" at 84 AU. Along the way, they have discovered more distant solar system objects suggesting that the gravity of something massive is influencing their orbit.Farout was found using the Japanese Subaru 8-meter telescope on Hawaii's Mauna Kea in November. Follow-up observations with Carnegie's Las Campanas Observatory's Magellan telescope in Chile determined its path, brightness and color."This discovery is truly an international achievement in research using telescopes located in Hawaii and Chile, operated by Japan, as well as by a consortium of research institutions and universities in the United States," Trujillo said in a statement. "With new wide-field digital cameras on some of the world's largest telescopes, we are finally exploring our Solar System's fringes, far beyond Pluto."In October, the team announced the discovery of "the Goblin" at 80 AU; it's so named because the distant solar system object was first spotted near Halloween.It's unlikely that these objects are influenced by the gravity of gas giants Neptune and Uranus because they never get close enough to them -- which indicates that something else is determining their orbits.Farout's orbit is yet to be determined."2018 VG18 is much more distant and slower moving than any other observed Solar System object, so it will take a few years to fully determine its orbit," Sheppard said in a statement. "But it was found in a similar location on the sky to the other known extreme Solar System objects, suggesting it might have the same type of orbit that most of them do. The orbital similarities shown by many of the known small, distant Solar System bodies was the catalyst for our original assertion that there is a distant, massive planet at several hundred AU shepherding these smaller objects." 3114

Four people, including the UPS driver, are dead after a police chase involving a stolen package delivery truck ended in a shooting Thursday night.According to the FBI, the incident started when two armed suspects robbed the Regency Jewelers in Coral Gables at about 4:15 p.m. As the suspects ran from the scene, they hijacked a UPS truck and kidnapped the driver, prompting a chase.When the truck eventually stopped, both the suspects and law enforcement exchanged shots. The shooting killed both suspects, the UPS driver and an innocent bystander at the scene.Federal agents say it is too early to tell how the driver and the bystander were fatally shot.The innocent bystander was shot and killed at the location where the chase ended, according to federal agents.
