They've been creative, offering more online shopping, phone orders, deliveries, and contact-free purchases.She says they'll turn one set of doors into an entrance, another the exit, to maintain a flow of traffic and a count of the number of people inside the store if they have to.For Warwick, it's about making her customers feel comfortable as well as her staff, some of whom she says have not returned to work because of safety concerns.Despite that, she is confident their online offerings and their emphasis on personal shopping will help them weather this round of restrictions, if it comes to that.Being in the store, she says, is uplifting, and provides a respite for customers who are looking for nostalgia, finding gifts there that are not available elsewhere. 1302

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego is one of the most rent-burdened cities in the entire country, according to a new report by Freddie Mac. The report claims that America’s Finest City is the second most rent-burdened city in the nation. Miami took the top spot on the list, followed by San Diego, Los Angeles, New York and Orlando. The report also found that those who make minimum wage would have to work nearly 100 hours per week to be able to afford the median rent. To come up with the report, Freddie Mac looked at how other organizations measure affordability to assess the rent-burden issue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County homebuyers could be gaining an upper hand in negotiations as the region's housing market slows.A new report from real-estate tracker CoreLogic says 2,936 homes changed hands in San Diego County in November, an 11 percent drop from November 2017. Meanwhile, the rate of home-price appreciation slowed to 4.6 percent year-over-year. The median home price was 5,000 in November."It's a good time to get in there," said Mark Goldman, a San Diego loan officer with C-2 Financial. "There's more selection of homes to purchase, and there's probably sellers who are more willing to consider offers maybe a little bit below their list price, and so forth."CoreLogic says Southern California as a whole has seen its biggest sales drop in three years. The company says higher interest rates and the volatile stock market could be contributing to buyer pullback. The average rate for a 30-year-fixed is now 4.55 percent, up about a half percent from a year ago. Goldman said qualifying families, even with a few percent cash down, should be able to get an offer accepted in this market."Be cautious, make an offer at a good price, work with a professional realtor who can guide you to a reasonable price, but if you're going to be in that house five years or so, I think you'll be happy," Goldman said.Goldman said the market is coasting at a rate of appreciation that is more sustainable. He said the 6 to 8 percent annual price growth could not last with wages not growing nearly as fast, he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego could become the first local police department to provide a low-cost, late-night daycare facility for officers' kids. The San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA) has a new plan to help struggling offers who are trying to make it in San Diego.Kelly Stinnette has two full-time jobs. She's a mother to her toddler, Landon, and she’s a detective with San Diego Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit. At times, she can be on-call for 24-hour periods.“It's a lot of anxiety and stress because you're thinking [that when] somebody's called the police [it] could be the worst day of their life and I need to be there 100% for them but still taking care of my son,” she tells 10News.To complicate matters, her husband is an SDPD SWAT officer.“With his team, they basically need to be able to respond at anytime, anywhere in the City of San Diego,” says Det. Stinnette.Parenting gets difficult when both she and her husband have to rush to work but need someone to watch Landon. “We basically have to have friends or family on backup,” she adds.“There's obviously an overwhelming need,” says Det. Jack Schaeffer with the San Diego Police Officers Association. He’s referring to the need for a special daycare for officers’ kids. He’s now working to make it a reality.“Our goal is to basically cut the cost in half or better for our members while staying open for 20 hours a day,” he tells 10News.According to a report from childcareaware.org, the cost of infant care in California averages more than ,000 a year.Det. Schaeffer adds, “Some of our members are spending around ,000 a month to have their kids watched if they have two or three kids.”The idea is that a low-cost daycare for officers’ kids would attract more applicants in a department that's faced a shortage of officers.“It not only does good things for recruiting, but for our mental wellness,” says Det. Stinnette.Det. Schaeffer's team is building the program from scratch. Initially, it'll only be available to San Diego police officers who are members of the SDPOA. “This is going to be the first big city that I know of that'll have something like this,” adds Det. Schaeffer.A location for the daycare has not been finalized. If all goes as planned, the daycare could be open within a year.The SDPOA already received a generous grant from San Diego’s Cushman Foundation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a man died in Southcrest Community Park late Friday night. Police were called to the scene after a passerby found a man with trauma and, possibly gunshot injuries to his upper body laying on the 1300 block of South 40th Street just after 10 p.m.San Diego Fire-Rescue was also called to the scene and began life-saving efforts, but police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say very little is known about the circumstances surrounding the man's death. The victim has been identified, but police haven't released his name at this time.
