Poway, Calif. (KGTV) - After years of rumors keeping bowlers anxious, 10News has learned that the Poway Fun Bowl will finally close August 31. The closure helps pave the way for dramatic changes at the Carriage Center shopping area.“I guess I’m not surprised. You see changes everywhere. It seems a shame that something that’s been here that long just can’t make it anymore," said David Spear, who lives nearby.10News has been tracking discussions between the new property owner and the tenants since 2018, when it first became clear that the owner had designs on removing the bowling alley and neighboring thrift stores on the land to make way for a new project. In October, the thrift stores learned their leases would not be renewed. Some have already closed. Others will be closing in the coming months. It is not clear yet what the owner plans to do with the property. An application has been filed with the city for a mixed-use project, but no formal plan has been pitched to the city council, according to one councilmember.Residents who spoke with 10News Thursday were torn. They cited two other major projects already approved within the next few blocks of Poway Road, expressing concern about growing traffic and the loss of Poway's "City in the Country" character. However, others supported the idea of modernizing a rundown part of the city, saying that while it is disappointing to lose the bowling alley and thrift shops, that new developments could benefit the community. 1492

President Donald Trump announced a new set of sanctions on North Korea Thursday, saying the executive action would target individuals and companies that engage in finance and trade with the isolated communist nation."It is unacceptable that others financially support this criminal rogue regime," Trump said ahead of a working lunch with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts. The executive order Trump inked just ahead of the lunch enhances US Treasury Department authorities to target individuals who provide goods, services or technology to North Korea, Trump said.He said the order would also allow the US to identify new industries -- including textiles, fishing and manufacturing -- as potential targets for future actions."Tolerance for this disgraceful practice must end now," he said of providing resources to North Korea. He also praised actions taken Thursday by Chinese President Xi Jinping to tamp down on financial relations with North Korea through its central bank. The new sanctions come two days after Trump threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea if it continues to threaten the United States and its allies.Trump insists that military options are on the table for dealing with North Korea, but his aides have said diplomacy is the preferred outlet for containing the nuclear crisis. The United Nations Security Council has approved multiple rounds of sanctions on North Korea, including on its exports. But they have yet to stop the communist nation's leader Kim Jong Un from launching ballistic missile tests.During talks Thursday with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan and President Moon Jae-in of South Korea, Trump is expected to reiterate that military options are available in retaliation for North Korean threats. That's likely to draw a rebuke from Moon, who has ruled out military action and issued warnings on the ramped-up rhetoric coming from Washington.The-CNN-Wire 1911

President Donald Trump does not like the news that General Motors would close several plants and cut more than 10,000 jobs. Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn on Monday afternoon, Trump said he spoke with CEO Mary Barra and told her he wasn't happy with the decision."I told her I'm not happy about it," Trump told reporters."The United States saved General Motors and for her to take that company out of Ohio is not good," he continued. "I think she's going to put something back in soon."On Monday, GM announced it would close four US-based plants, including two in metro Detroit; the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant and the Warren Transmission Operations plant.According to a spokesperson for GM, the plants will be unallocated which means they will no longer produce vehicles in those plants in 2019. According to the company, the future of the plants will be part of contract talks with the UAW next year.“The actions we are taking today continue our transformation to be highly agile, resilient and profitable, while giving us the flexibility to invest in the future,” Barra said in a release. “We recognize the need to stay in front of changing market conditions and customer preferences to position our company for long-term success.”According to the release, GM will lay off 14,700 factory and white-collar workers. Of those, 8,100 will be white-collar workers that will either take buyouts or be laid off.The company said that the moves will help continue its focus on crossovers, SUVs and trucks. With the move, GM plans to cut 25 percent of the executive staff and 15 percent of the salaried and salaried contract staff. The transition also includes ceasing production of six vehicles; the Chevrolet Cruze, Volt and Impala, the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac XTS sedan and Cadillac CT6 sedan. According to the company, the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant produces the Volt, Impala, LaCrosse and CT6.Trump said Barra told him the Cruze isn't selling well."Hopefully she’s going to come back and put something, but I told her I’m not happy about it," he added.Barra also was meeting with White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow on Monday, a White House official confirms. The meeting has apparently been on the books for weeks and it's just a coincidence that the meeting and the announcement happened on the same day. 2369

(KGTV) — A Poway woman is taking legal action against the city after she says she fell ill from drinking contaminated water. The city on Nov. 30 issued a precautionary boil advisory after residents reported brownish water coming from their faucets. Serino says she is hearing from other individuals who have fallen ill, and seeks to represent them, along with businesses who lost revenue. Serino, a Poway resident, said she herself and her two-year-old son were also sickened by the water. "Personally I felt ill after drinking the water, and my son, I had to take him to urgent care" Serino said. "So just in my own family, because we are Poway residents, I have two small children, it's affecting us as well and other people that we work with." A spokesman for the city says Poway is aware of the claim and processing it. 1316
