SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A mountain lion cub rescued by the San Diego Humane Society continues to make great strides in its recovery.The Humane Society said the female cub was found by Vista Grande Fire Station firefighters near a road in Idyllwild on Sept. 2. The cub was “semiconscious, extremely emaciated, dehydrated, weak and had tremors,” according to the Humane Society.Under the care of the Humane Society’s Project Wildlife, the cub -- believed to be 14 weeks old -- has made significant health progress.Through daily fluid therapy, medications, and proper meals, the Humane Society said the cub has increased her weight from 10.5 pounds to 22 pounds.Christine Barton, the director of Operations & Wildlife Rehabilitation at the Humane Society’s Ramona campus, said, “With each passing day, she becomes more active and responsive and, though she still has some medical issues to overcome from being in such a fragile state, we are delighted she has responded well to our treatment and are hopeful she will make a full recovery. Mountain lions are special predators and we are proud to have an expert team trusted by the state of California to care for the species.”The Humane Society added:“Mountain lions typically stay with their mother until they disperse to live a solitary life at around 12-18 months of age. Because it is not safe to return a young mountain lion to the wild if found injured or orphaned as a kitten, Project Wildlife has been working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to monitor her progress and when stabilized, to ensure she has a good permanent home at a qualified facility.San Diego Humane Society acquired the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona on Sept. 1 from the Humane Society of the United States. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local organization is raising money for a good Samaritan that died in February in Pine Valley. Sunday, the It's All About the Kids Foundation hosted the "Be Like Bob" art show to raise money for a scholarship in Bob Bruno's honor. Bruno died in February when he stopped to help a driver on the I-8 in Pine Valley. While helping, there was another accident and to avoid being hit, Bruno jumped over the side of the guardrail, falling into the canyon below. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new lot meant to give people living in their cars and RVs a safe place to sleep and avoid citation is going largely unused.During Tuesday morning's wee hours, the lot across from SDCCU Stadium looked completely empty. San Diego opened the lot in mid-June, as the third safe parking lot for those who live in their vehicles. The newest one came a month after the council enacted an emergency ordinance that banned people from living in cars and recreational vehicles on public streets from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The city enacted the restriction after being inundated with safety concerns from residents who said people were camping in their beach front neighborhoods, leaving human waste, and trash. At Mission Bay on Tuesday, many who do live in their vehicles said they would prefer to stay near the coast, despite the threat of citation. "They don't know about it, and maybe it's not that convenient either," said Gary Parsons, who lives inside his Dodge Ram. "Inside I put in some carpet, and some shelving, and I sleep on the floor."Chris Enders, who lives in an RV with his wife and son, said they spend their nights on unchecked private property, such as parking lots near the beach. He said the Mission Valley location is not feasible."When you're getting five miles a gallon in gas, that's .75 just to get there, and then to get back that's another .75 so you just cost me ... for one day," said Enders.The lot requires all vehicles to be out by 7 a.m. daily. Ashley Bailey, a spokeswoman for the mayor, said the city and Jewish Family Service are working to bring more people to the lot."In partnership with Jewish Family Service, teams are continuing to conduct outreach and seek feedback to ensure everyone who wants to use this lot has the opportunity to do so," she said in a statement. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A rash of mail tampering incidents has led to missing money and an unusual M.O.On Winnebago Avenue in late June, Kelly Craig was standing in front of her home talking to a neighbor."Around 10:30 a.m., the mail carrier dropped off the mail in front of me," said Craig.A few minutes later, Craig got her mail and noticed something. One of her envelopes was sliced open on the side. "Looks like a razor blade slit the side," said Craig.Inside, she found a birthday card from her mother, mailed from Montana. The usual money was not there. A call to mom revealed 0 in cash should have been inside."Felt panicked and really sad the money was missing, and my mom was really upset," said Craig.Craig wasn't alone. That same day, less than two miles away, her daughter-in-law went to get her mail."She got a wedding card from my sister, and it had cash in it as well," said Craig.The 0 that was inside was gone. That envelope was also sliced open on the left side, but there was one difference. The side and back of the enveloped were resealed with tape."Clearly trying to cover up their stealing of the money," said Craig.When Craig and her daughter-in-law reported it to postal authorities, they say they were told of similar recent incidents, including one if the College Area. On the Nextdoor app , several neighbors also reporting similar incidents. Postal supervisors told Craig her card went through multiple locations, before ending up at the Clairemont post office for delivery."Somewhere along the line, someone took that money out," said Craig.The USPS has warned against sending cash in the mail. 10news did reach out to the Postal Inspection Service and are waiting to hear back. 1717
