SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hundreds of homeless individuals remain evacuated at SDCCU Stadium after heavy rains flooded an East Village shelter this week, forcing them to leave.Flooding Thursday night overturned portable restroom facilities at the Alpha Project facility, turning the ground into a swamp of feces and human waste and inundating tents meant to house the homeless from the storm.Saturday, those evacuated remained at the Mission Valley stadium. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Drivers who travel from northbound Interstate 5 to the Coronado Bridge will be detoured through Barrio Logan this week due to construction.Caltrans crews will shut down the north I-5 connector to SR-75 Monday through Thursday nights to install a debris fence above Chicano Park.Detour signs will guide drivers to exit at Cesar Chavez Parkway, then left to the on-ramp at SR-75 at Logan Avenue.The closure will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.Check TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. 508

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Firefighters in San Diego are rallying around a beloved firefighter suddenly in the fight of his life, after a cancer diagnosis."His nickname is 'Big Joe,' because he's bigger than life," said firefighter Russell Castillo.Castillo says Engineer/Paramedic Joe Odom, 49, is known as the light switch in a room."His smile lights up a room. His energy lights up a room. He makes everyone feel valued ... It’s our time to return that love," said Castillo.It’s been an emotional time for the 23-year veteran of San Diego Fire-Rescue. He recently discovered some swelling in his groin area. Doctors diagnosed him with lymphoma, cancer that begins in the immune system. He’s awaiting more testing for a prognosis.It comes as Odom’s wife Lisa battles serious health issues, including a lung condition and lupus."She’s giving me inspiration for what’s she’s been through," said Odom.Lisa is immunocompromised. Odom, as a paramedic on the front lines, has been trying to keep her safe, while still serving the community during a pandemic."It's scary for a lot of folks. I just want to be there, anyway I know how ... Just feel like I need be out there," said Odom.A help now on pause as he begins his cancer battle, and he’ll be far from alone."I feel like I'm in this dark places but God is bringing all these people to me," said Odom.Firefighters from Odom’s Station 26 in Oak Park have helped organize a fundraiser, including a meal train, along with countless messages of support."It's our time to show how much we love him," said Castillo."I'm speechless of the support I’m getting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Get ready for sunny days at SeaWorld this summer, as the cast of a television favorite comes to San Diego.SeaWorld will host Sesame Street favorites including Elmo, Cookie Monster, and others with themed floats, music, and two performances along the parade route during the Sesame Street Party Parade.The parade will feature 10 massive floats depicting the areas kids know and love, like Mr. Hooper's Store and the Count's Castle.More than 20 dancers will jump and jive alongside Elmo down the parade route, along with a cast of furry friends.During the two mid-parade shows, performers will jump rope, hula hoop, and groove to guests' delight. One show will star Rosita, a Sesame Street favorite known for her guitar skills. The parade can be seen on weekends running from May 25 - Sept. 1 at the park. 830
