(CNS) - The California State University system Tuesday extended its fall 2021 application deadline to Dec. 15 to accommodate students coping with the coronavirus pandemic.The application deadline was originally this Friday.Applications for any of the CSU campuses can be submitted online at www2.calstate.edu/apply.Prospective students were also encouraged to explore CSU financial aid options after applying, with officials noting that 80% of all CSU students receive some form of financial aid.The University of California system on Monday extended its application period, not because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but due to a problem with the online application portal. LOS ANGELES (AP) — An autopsy report says “Glee” actor Naya Rivera raised her arm and called for help as she accidentally drowned while boating with her 4-year-old son on a California lake. The report released Friday by the Ventura County Medical Examiner says the 33-year-old Rivera was a strong swimmer. It says she had suffered from vertigo and had a recent sinus infection but neither were factors in her death. Small amounts of prescription drugs found her systems also did not contribute to her death. Rivera's son was found alone on the boat on July 8. Her body was found five days later. 603

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A shirtless man is in custody after leading Los Angeles-area authorities on an auto pursuit that ended in a Venice Beach parking lot where he was taken down by a stun gun.News helicopters showed the scene Friday afternoon as the pursuit transitioned from a freeway to city streets and then entered the parking lot, where the driver finally stopped and got out of the SUV.The man started walking away, but officers equipped with guns and less-lethal weapons closed in and he suddenly fell flat on his back.Officers swarmed the man as beachgoers gathered to watch.Police tell KTLA the man was suspected of assault and making criminal threats against his mother. 686
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Major League Baseball lashed out Wednesday at Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner, who was pulled from the team's championship- clinching World Series game due to a positive COVID-19 test, but left isolation to celebrate with the team, sometimes without a mask on.According to a statement issued by the league, Turner was placed into isolation during Tuesday night's game in Texas "for the safety of those around him.""However, following the Dodgers' victory, it is clear that Turner chose to disregard the agreed-upon joint protocols and the instructions he was given regarding the safety and protection of others," according to MLB. "While a desire to celebrate is understandable, Turner's decision to leave isolation and enter the field was wrong and put everyone he came in contact with at risk.
