SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County residents can now watch for wildfires without ever going outside.  San Diego Gas and Electric introduced “Alert SDG&E Cameras” Tuesday.  The public website allows anyone to watch live video streamed from any of 15 cameras placed on top of the county’s highest peaks.“This is a game changer for San Diego and the communities that we serve,” said SDG&E COO Caroline Winn.“Alert SDG&E Cameras” is a collaboration with UC San Diego and the Seismology Lab at the University of Nevada, Reno.“We’re about getting the information out to those who want it,” said Winn. “It’s important that these are shared assets.”SDG&E meteorologists monitor the cameras, which can spin 360-degrees, zoom in to a fire, and can alert fire officials when there’s smoke. 814

The new test not only provides a positive or negative reading, but it also provides vital genetic information that can help create a vaccine.From concept to the FDA's emergency use authorization, the San Diego-based team at Illumina worked at warp speed."The idea came 58 days ago," Susan Tousi, Sr. VP. of Production and Development at Illumina said. "It took a village of all of us in San Diego to make that happen."There are already many different types of COVID-19 tests on the market.But the scientists and engineers at Illumina came up with a test that reveals a lot more."Our test not only gives you a yes or no answer for the presence of the virus, but it also gives you the genetic sequence of the virus," Tousi said.On Tuesday, the FDA approved the Emergency use of the world's first COVID-19 test that also shows the biological makeup of the virus.The results can help researchers track and trace the virus and study different mutations over time and in different regions."Knowing this is really critical, not only to the development of effective vaccines but also for us to detect its presence, recurrence, and whether there is a mutated form that we need to be prepared for," Tousi said.The sample is collected via nose or throat swab and sent to the lab.A sequencing machine can run up 43,000 samples a week. From swab to results, it takes only 24 hours."This was the culmination of an incredible amount of work. And I'm confident we're going to make a big difference in the fight against COVID," Tousi said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers seized more than 43,000 pounds of drugs at California ports of entry in June.Across six ports of entry along California's border with Mexico, CBP says officers stopped attempts to smuggle 34,685 lbs. of marijuana, 7,661 lbs. of methamphetamine, 635 lbs. of cocaine, 166 lbs. of heroin, and 165 lbs. of fentanyl in June. The total street value of the narcotics is more than million.The narcotics were found strapped to individuals' bodies and hidden in areas of vehicles, like gas tanks, trunks, seats, and quarter panels, according to CBP."These are impressive results and no matter what is occurring in the country, CBP officers remain vigilant," said San Diego CBP Director of Field Operations, Pete Flores. They are offering a ,000 reward to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest of the suspect, said Principal David LeMaster. "It starts at home, guys," said one parent. "Stop pointing the fingers at them and step up for yourself and know what your child is doing." There is still a lot of fear in at the school. It's only been one day since someone painted the threatening around campus. Words like "school shooting, Florida was nothing" and "murder, blood, chaos" have parents questioning the safety of their children."These images are quite frightening to be honest with you," Michelle Perry said. Her 15-year-old daughter texted her that morning after she saw the graffiti. "I immediately texted (my daughter) back. I texted her the pictures, I said 'you need to go to the office. You need to figure out what's going on.'"Perry attended the school meeting Tuesday night to talk more about how parents and faculty are going to keep their kids safe. Principal David LeMaster calls the message a hate crime and terroristic threats -- saying the school is working with police to catch the person who did it. A second meeting will be held at the school Thursday at 3 p.m. Parents hope to continue the conversation and brainstorm ways to make sure students stay safe.     1817
