EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- The family and friends of the 31-year-old man accused of gunning down his wife and their kids in Paradise Hills over the weekend spoke Monday about the tragedy. Police say Jose Valdivia killed his wife, Sabrina Rosario, and their three children, 3-year-old Enzi, 5-year-old Zuriel, and 11-year-old Zeth. Valdivia also shot his 9-year-old son who survived but is in the hospital on life support. Family and friends say they do not agree with what Valdivia did, adding that they are also grieving the loss of their loved one, his wife, and their children. "We do not agree with what he did but as family and friends, we love him," said close friend Gavino Pinal.His friends called him a loving father and a hard-worker. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A gas leak in the East County forced several businesses to abruptly close Friday, as crews worked to stop the leak.The gas leak occurred North Marshall Ave. and Petree St. at about 12 p.m. when crews with Helix Water District struck a gas pipe while installing a communications line, according to El Cajon Fire Department.A representative with the water district said HWD personnel arrived at the scene after the rupture had occurred and are not responsible for the damage.Crews evacuated a nearby shopping center, where customers at the Black Bear Diner were given five minutes to leave the area. The leak also forced a nearby Rock Church and school to evacuate.For four hours, several blocks were closed to motorists and MTS trolley and bus service were impacted in the area.SDG&E has since stopped the leak by pinching off a section of the pipe in another area. Crews plan to take an additional two hours to repair the damged section of the gas line.No injuries were reported. 1017

(KGTV) - A crowd gathered in El Cajon to honor the life of a man, killed in a hit-and-run accident, on the day he was supposed to be married.Steven Johnson - a father of six and a grandfather - was riding his motorcycle to work at a Lakeside trucking company Friday, the 2nd, when he crashed around 5:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 67 just past Willows Road.He never recovered, and passed away Wednesday.Saturday, his fiancé Karlene Moen stood in front of friends and family at their wedding venue, complete with the cake and flowers, and told them how Johnson helped and inspired so many."It's amazing to see how many people's lives he actually did touch because I've always just heard about it and I've never actually seen it," Moen said. Johnson was a sponsor for drug addicts and alcoholics. He was sober almost 16 years, according to Moen. Several men told 10News they're only here today because of Johnson. They said they became sober because Johnson truly believed in them.Moen said she and her fiancé met at an NAA meeting, "he taught me how to live my life sober, he taught me how to love my kids sober, he taught me how to be a mom sober, he taught me how to be a friend sober."As she thought about her wedding day, tears filled her eyes, "we were supposed to be married today, I was supposed to take his hand and unite as one." Wiping away tears she continued, "It's messing me up, and I almost don't want to be here, because it hurts so bad, it, I feel pain in my chest."She fretted about their wedding day, saying a week before the big day she helped him get an outfit. "I didn't get to wear my wedding dress that I picked out especially for him, that I knew that when he looked at me that he would think that I was the most beautiful woman he's seen," she said mournfully.One lasting question in her mind, "I just want to know why? I just want to know what kind of a person you are to not even help him up off the road?"His family wants the woman who left the scene to turn her self in, or someone who knows what happened to come forward, to give them closure. 2098
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A day after a massive fire broke out in an East County recycling plant, smoke was seen billowing from a building just a freeway exit away Thursday.San Diego firefighters responded to the site at about 12:30 p.m. Smoke could be seen pouring from a building in the 100 block of Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon. The site is that of the city's former police station, that has since sat abandoned.It's not clear if there were active flames inside the building, but footage from Sky10 showed thick smoke coming from the building.San Diego Police officers were also seen nearby with three individuals sitting on the ground. Police have not confirmed if anyone was in custody or being questioned.The site was approved for redevelopment last year, with plans to build a hotel and retail stores on the site.Wednesday, a metal recycling facility burst into flames, sending black smoke into the air. (KGTV) – The superintendent of an El Cajon senior living apartment complex says police told him they have arrested a suspect in a series of robberies that have taken place on the sidewalk in front of the building. The arrest comes less than 24 hours after a 10News story aired surveillance video showing two of the muggings outside the Salvation Army apartments on South Anza Street."I actually jumped up and down with excitement," said super Alex Harmon, describing his reaction to the news. He says the surveillance video was key evidence. Harmon says there have been at least five incidents between October 15 and December 24. In one instance, the thief and a possible accomplice are seen carefully observing resident, May Kanao, while passing her on the street. The thief then turned and followed Kanao around the corner. He attempted to rip the gold chain off her neck, coming away with the gold cross which had been attached. The thief is then seen running back down South Anza St. In the other incident, which took place in October, the thief is seen engaging a 97-year-old resident who uses a walker in conversation, convincing her to open her bag. He quickly rifled through it, grabbed her wallet, and walked away.10News contacted the El Cajon Police Department.
