SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Chollas View elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday after reports of an armed man nearby.San Diego Police were called to the area of 45th and Market streets at about 9:30 a.m. over the reported suspect. Chollas-Mead Elementary School was placed on lockdown as police searched the area.Officers arrested an armed man at the scene and were searching for a second suspect who fled the scene, believed to possibly be armed as well, police said.Chollas-Mead Elementary's lockdown was lifted as of 11 a.m. while police continued their search.The outstanding suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall black man, in his 20s, last seen wearing a black shirt and light blue pants, SDPD told City News Service. 736

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested and booked after trying to snatch a toddler from their parent's car outside of a Costco in Vista, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.The incident happened just before 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the store located at 1755 Hacienda Drive.Sheriff's Sgt. Nanette McMasters said a woman, her fiancée, and their two small children were backing out of a parking stall when the suspect opened the rear vehicle door. The suspect attempted to remove the 2-year-old child from the car.The child's parents got out of the car and confronted the suspect, identified as Adam Glavinic."The incident drew a crowd and a physical confrontation occurred between the father and Glavinic," said McMasters.An off-duty sheriff's employee and other witnesses intervened in the confrontation and held the suspect until two deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station arrived on the scene.Glavinic was arrested for attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility, according to McMasters.It's unknown at this time if the toddler, the father, or the suspect suffered any injuries during the incident.The incident remains under investigation. 1265

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men were shot Saturday evening while standing on a sidewalk in the Mountain View area of San Diego.It happened about 6 p.m. in the 1000 block of South 45th Street, said San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.The two victims were standing on the sidewalk with others, Heims said. "A vehicle was eastbound on Newton Avenue when it stopped in the intersection and someone inside fired multiple rounds at the group."A 44-year-old man was shot in the head and paramedics took him to a hospital, the officer said. "At this time, his injuries are non-life-threatening."A 29-year-old man was shot in the right arm and driven to a hospital by an unknown person, Heims said. His wound was not believed life-threatening.The car involved in the shooting was described as an early model small, light-colored sedan. 830

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - "81 percent of people get a mild form of this disease; I'm one of them," says Dr. Eileen Natuzzi. The Encinitas surgeon is still a bit weary after 16 days of self-quarantine from coronavirus symptoms. She retired in November after 25 years as an acute care surgeon but spends her time now in the Solomon Islands volunteering her services in undeserved communities. It was just over two weeks ago when she felt her symptoms coming on. "When I was returning from the Solomon Islands, I started to experience some chills, a little bit of a fever, and just a slight cough," says Dr. Natuzzi. She flew home a day early and got progressively sicker, with nausea, and intestinal issues. She spoke with a friend who's an infectious disease specialist and two ER doctors. "They said, 'Well, it sounds like you have it, but you're probably not sick enough to be tested at this point in time.'"Dr. Natuzzi was never able to get the test. But as of this week, she's back on her feet and recovering. When she's healthy enough, she'll answer Governor Newsom's call for retired health care workers to return to the job in the fight against coronavirus. For now, she's helping some friends in Hollywood with their cause. "So, please, please, please, donate as much or as little as you can. Everything helps," says actress Alicia Silverstone on her Instagram video.Dr. Natuzzi's and Silverstone have been trying to drum up support for donations to a GoFundMe page created by fellow actor Edward Norton. It's already raised close to 5-million dollars to get critical supplies to medical professionals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Border Patrol agent was sentenced Wednesday for trying to smuggle drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border while on duty in 2016.Noe Lopez, 37, of Chula Vista, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine and cocaine in exchange for cash. He pled guilty to the charges in June 2017.Investigators say the former Border Patrol agent agreed to pick up backpacks containing the drugs from the north side of the border while on duty. Undercover DEA agents used substances resembling drugs in the backpack drops.RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug , weapons chargesIn a conversation with an undercover agent, Lopez discussed the area known as "Goat Canyon" as a preferred location, according to investigators, saying "Honestly, the thing is that there aren’t—there aren’t any cameras.
