BANGKOK, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo announced here Wednesday that China will provide 10- million-yuan in cash aid to flood-hit Thailand. "China decided to offer Thailand a humanitarian emergency aid worth 10 million yuan and stood ready to provide other help,"Wu said in a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.At least 181 people in Thailand were killed in nationwide floods that hace stricken the country since Oct. 10. CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The outcome of the UN climate change conference in Cancun sent "positive" signals to the international community, the Chinese delegation said Saturday.Conference delegates finally reached a deal to fight global warming early Saturday after an all-night session, overruling an objection from Bolivia."As for the outcome of this conference, first of all, it adheres to the (UN) Convention (on climate change), the Kyoto Protocol and the Bali Roadmap, as well as the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, which ensures that next year's negotiation will continue along the two tracks decided by the Bali Roadmap," the Chinese delegation said in a statement."Second, progress has been made at different levels in the areas where developing countries have concerns, such as adaptation, technology transfer, finance and capacity building, and the negotiation process will move on, which sends positive signals to the international community," the delegation said.It said the conference failed to conclude the negotiation of the Bali Roadmap and this indicated next year's negotiation task would be "extremely difficult."The delegation expected all parties to display strong political will and conclude the negotiation on the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol at the next conference, to be held in Durban, South Africa. BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) into China hit a record 105.74 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 17.4 percent year on year, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced Tuesday.In December alone, China attracted 14.03 billion U.S. dollars of FDI, up 15.6 percent year on year, making it the 17th consecutive month of FDI growth since August 2009.The rapid FDI growth could be attributed to robust development in the service sector and the country's central and western regions, said MOC spokesman Yao Jian.FDI in the service sector rose 28.6 percent last year and that in central and western regions climbed 27.6 percent year on year, Yao said.

BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's central government pledged on Friday to support the northeastern region by boosting its development of modern agriculture.A guideline, mapped out by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture, was publicized by the General Office of the State Council, or cabinet, on the central government' s official website www.gov.cn.The guideline expects the region to harvest more than 100 million tonnes of grain annually by 2015.Northeastern China should catch up with developed countries in terms of land output rates and labor production rates, according to the guideline.The northeastern region in the guideline refers to Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang Provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
