EDINBURGH, Britain, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with British First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond in Edinburgh on Sunday to upgrade relations between China and Scotland."Scotland is the first stop in my British visit. Sino-British relations have seen smooth development for a long time, and friendly cooperation between China and Scotland has also been in constant development," said Li.China regards Britain as an important strategic partner, and considers bilateral relationship from an overall, strategic and long-term perspective. The two sides should boost economic and technical exchanges and cooperation, Li said, adding China is willing to learn from and import technologies, equipment and management expertise from Scotland.Li noted that there is still great potential for the two sides to deepen bilateral cooperation at all levels.In addition to strengthening economic and trade cooperation, he said the two countries should also enhance exchanges in culture, education, tourism and other fields.China supports the joint study of giant panda at the Edingburger zoo, and hopes that panda can become a goodwill ambassador for friendship between the two countries, Li said.Salmond, British first Minister of Scotland, expressed welcome at Li's visit, and hailed the achievement and vigor of China's development. BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) - China's urbanization would boost domestic demand by 30 trillion yuan (4.5 trillion U.S. dollars) by 2030, an official from a top think tank said Saturday.The country's urbanization expansion promises a huge potential in domestic demand, which will assure a stable economic development for China even if exports decline, Han Jun, vice director with the State Council's Development Research Center (SCDRC), said at a forum, adding that the urban migrants' demand for housing is likely to become the largest driving force for China's economic growth in the future.Additionally, Han noted that the core issue in China's urbanization is to allow farmers-turned-migrant workers to become permanent urban residents.In the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Proposal for Formulating the 12th Five-Year Program for China's Economic and Social Development (2011-2015), which was issued last month, authorities stressed that accelerating urbanization would be an important mission during the next five years.Data from the SCDRC indicates that China's urbanization rate hit 46 percent by the end of 2009, and will reach 63.6 percent by 2030, with the urban population standing at 930 million.

  

BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Finance said here Wednesday that it will sell a batch of 30-year long-term book-entry treasury bonds this week at a yield of 4.23 percent.The bonds, with a total face value of 28 billion yuan (about 4.2 billion U.S. dollars), will be sold over five days starting Thursday, said the ministry in a statement on its website.The bonds are the 40th batch of the kind to be sold by the ministry this year, and will be the fifth batch of 30-year T-bonds the ministry has sold this year.The bonds will become tradable on Dec. 15 through the national inter-bank bond market and over the counter at designated commercial banks. Interest will be paid every half year.
