SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Wednesday for help in identifying a man seen fleeing the scene of a deadly shooting in the Chollas Creek neighborhood.Officers responding to reports of gunfire near Colina Park Golf Course about 2:30 p.m. Friday found 26-year-old Lazaro Orozco mortally wounded in the 4000 block of 52nd Street, according to San Diego police. Medics took Orozco to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.A man believed to be the shooter was seen running out of the area to the west following the shooting, Lt. Matthew Dobbs said.The suspect was described as a roughly 5-foot-7-inch Latino in his 20s or early 30s, wearing plaid shorts, a white shirt, a blue jacket, white tennis shoes and what appeared to be a cast or bandage on his left arm.Investigators believe the deadly shooting occurred during a roadside fight between the two men. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday were working to determine what led to the death of an inmate at the San Diego Central Jail. Deputies conducting a security check at the Front Street detention center found 26-year-old Ivan Ortiz of San Ysidro unconscious in his cell about 3:45 p.m. Monday, according to sheriff's officials. ``Deputies and medical staff performed lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived and transported Ortiz to the hospital,'' Lt. Michael Blevins said. Physicians pronounced Ortiz dead about 4 1/2 hours later. Ortiz had been arrested by San Diego police last June on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism. A criminal complaint alleges that he attacked two people last June 6 with a skateboard, and attempted to kill one of the victims, though specific details on the alleged attack were unavailable. He also faced two counts of assault with a deadly weapon -- a skateboard -- as well as three counts of felony vandalism regarding alleged incidents on May 10 and June 9, and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. At the time of his death, he was being housed alone in a psychiatric observation cell. The county Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Ortiz's death. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorist who fled a traffic stop in Encanto Tuesday led officers on a 40-minute pursuit that ended with his arrest near Lake Hodges, authorities reported.The man refused to yield when San Diego police tried to pull him over for a traffic violation in the 6800 block of Akins Avenue shortly after 9 a.m., SDPD public-affairs Officer Michael Stirk said.The motorist drove off to the east toward Spring Valley, then entered state Route 125 and headed north, Stirk said.Reaching Santee, the man entered SR-52 and headed west, then merged onto northbound Interstate 15 when he got to the Miramar area.While passing through northern San Diego with SDPD and California Highway Patrol personnel tailing him and tracking his pursuit aboard a police helicopter, the driver managed to avoid running over several spike strips that CHP officers hurled onto the roadway in his path.After entering Escondido, however, the man finally pulled to a stop on the side of the freeway near Ninth Avenue and was taken into custody without further incident about 9:45 a.m., Stirk said.The arrestee's name was not immediately available. 1139
