It's a massive, sugary replica of the entire National Mall.The pastry creation — featured at Monday's unveiling of the White House holiday decorations — required 225 pounds of dough, 25 pounds of chocolate and 20 pounds of white icing. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is allowing a class-action lawsuit to proceed from minor league baseball players who allege they are being paid less than minimum wage.The justices offered no comment Monday in rejecting Major League Baseball's appeal.The case of Senne v. Royals was first filed in 2014 on behalf of former minor league player Aaron Senne, ESPN reported and has now expanded to include minor league players in Arizona, California, and Florida.In the lawsuit, the players claim most earned less than ,500 annually in violation of several laws.According to USA Today, if minor leaguers had played ball this season, they would have earned between 0-0 per week played.Minor League Baseball canceled its season due to the coronavirus pandemic.A judge had initially allowed only the California players to sue, but the federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled in favor of the players from Arizona and Florida. 941

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tuesday is the last day for small businesses to apply for a loan through the Paycheck Protection Program.About 4.8 million businesses received a PPP loan, with a total of 9 billion lent out. But as of Tuesday, there's still more than 0 billion left in the pot.As to why that is, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council says there's a few reasons, like concerns over how much would actually be forgiven, constantly changing rules, and strict limits to how the money can be used.“Not all businesses are the same. So, you know you've got businesses with high overhead, maybe few on payroll,” said Karen Kerrigan, President and CEO of the SBE Council. “This program really didn't align with their needs.”Business owners and advocacy groups complain that the money in the PPP was not fully put to work because it created obstacles that stopped countless small businesses from applying.A report from a research group says the program’s shortcomings also made it more difficult for minority businesses to get loans.The owners of a Colorado brewery who got a PPP loan say it helped, but only goes so far."It didn't solve the problems. What it did was sustain us for a few more months."The SBE Council is working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for further policy solutions. They're pushing to broaden what expenses can be forgiven, especially when it comes to technology.Through a survey, the group found 87% of small businesses said they wouldn't have been able to survive without cloud-based services.“We know that consumers are on social media and technology platforms looking for new businesses, looking for new brands, looking for new things that they need, and that's where small businesses can really fill that gap,” said Kerrigan.The Small Business Administration says it will be up to Congress to decide what to do with leftover funds from the PPP. 1900

WEST CHESTER TWP., Ohio — West Chester Police are investigating a racist letter one family said was mailed to them earlier in the week. The letter, laden with racial slurs and derogatory language, demands the family take down their yard signs supporting President-elect Joe Biden and the Black Lives Matter movement.Mia Harlan said when her husband Brian opened a letter from the mail late last week, his reaction told her it wasn't a typical piece of mail."The way he responded, the way he acted, told me something wasn't right," Harlan said.The Harlans have a Black Lives Matter flag and a Biden campaign sign in their yard; the letter the couple received threatens vandalism if the signs aren't taken down.It states, in part, "if you don't take that s*** down in a hurry, we'll be aiming at your house, your cars and you."Racial slurs and expletives in the letter have been censored.Harlan said she was disgusted and angry, and the couple reported the letter to West Chester Police."Stay away from my family," she said. "Stay away from my property...what else would they do? Will they actually come to our home and try to harm us? Or try to harm our children?
