SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A brazen package theft — and attempt to stop it — was caught on surveillance video at a Pacific Beach home.Penny Ryan wasn't home when the scene on her porch unfolded, but it was all captured on her doorbell camera. A man walked up to the residence with a small green skateboard and bag before he lays down the board and walks up onto the porch. The man then begins stuffing his bag with packages left on the doorstep.But before he gets away, a concerned nearby resident comes across the man as he's leaving and tells him to put the bag down multiple times.MAP: Track crime in San Diego County neighborhoodsThe thief appears to be willing to put the bag down, telling the resident, "I'll put it down, sir. Sir, I'll put it down." SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three men who took part in the shotgun slaying of a Pacific Beach resident late last year pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter and assault charges.Carlos Yslas, 25; Pedro Ramirez, 27; and Freddy Sosa, 38, were previously facing murder charges in the Dec. 29, 2018, death of 44-year-old Marcanthony Mendivil, who was killed in a home in the 2300 block of Wilbur Avenue.Yslas, who admitted to firing the shotgun, faces up to 30 years in state prison when he is sentenced Jan. 10.RELATED: Suspects in fatal Pacific Beach shooting to be arraigned; victim identifiedRamirez, who faces eight years in prison, is also due to be sentenced Jan. 10. Sosa also faces eight years in prison and will be sentenced Nov. 15.A fourth defendant, Paul Charles Weinberger, 51, remains charged with murder and assault. He's due back in court next week for a status conference, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 18. Weinberger remains out of custody on million bail.Prosecutors have said that Weinberger lived in the residence where Mendivil was shot in the predawn hours of Dec. 29. However, neither a motive for the slaying, nor the defendants' relationships to each other and the victim, have been disclosed.Officers found Mendivil suffering from a gunshot wound when they responded to a 1:47 a.m. call of a possible shooting last Dec. 29, San Diego Police Lt. Matt Dobbs said.Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m., Dobbs said.Deputy District Attorney Flavio Nominati alleged during Yslas and Ramirez's arraignment earlier this year that both men entered the home masked and gloved.Yslas threatened another witness with the shotgun, then fired twice on Mendivil, the prosecutor said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A City Heights elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning following reports of gunfire in the area.San Diego Police responded to the call of shots fired near Colina del Sol Park at 5319 Orange Avenue just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.Fay Elementary - located across the street from the park - was placed on a precautionary lockdown, according to police. The lockdown was lifted within an hour.Two individuals were detained following the reports, but police did not confirm whether they were associated with the shooting. Police did say they are searching for one more individual.Police recovered shell casings at the scene, but would not say how many were recovered. No injuries have been reported.SDPD officers were on the scene Wednesday afternoon investigating.  840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 91-year-old woman died and a younger woman was injured in a crash in Clairemont Friday. The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of Balboa Avenue, near Mt. Alifan Drive, authorities said.The older woman was driving south on Mt. Alifan in a gray Toyota Camry. Police said the Camry and a car driven by a 32-year-old woman collided in the intersection of Balboa Ave.Wreckage was strewn across the Auto Zone parking lot at 6085 Balboa Ave.The 91-year-old woman, who has not been identified, died at the scene. The younger woman suffered minor scrapes and bruises, police said.The cause of the collision is unknown. Police said it was possible a car may have run a red light, leading to the crash.Balboa Avenue is closed in both directions from the 6000 block (Mt. Alifan Dr.) to 6600 block (Mt. Albertine Ave.) near Lindbergh/Schweitzer Elementary School. Police believe the road will reopen about 3 p.m. 973

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A College Area homeowner got a huge shock when he returned home from a camping trip: The presence of some uninvited guests.Bill Yogerst left Saturday at 12 p.m. from his home on Catoctin Drive. On Monday morning, he got a call from his roommate, who had also been out of town, telling him the grates on the outside of the granny flat had been damaged.     Inside the house, there was one disturbing discovery after another.    "There was a trail of dirt in the shower. They had urinated on the toilet. They ate my food and drank my beer," said Yogerst.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodPhotos he took show a half-eaten bowl of soup, and open beer bottles that were taken from his fridge. He also found shoes and some sweatpants in his hamper that didn't belong to him. Also throughout the house were odd shrines of carefully positioned, mismatched household objects."That is skin-crawling creepy," said Yogerst.The feeling didn't go away when he reached the bedroom."I looked at my bed and it wasn't made. Sheets were pulled down and the pillows rearranged and stacked ... realized they were sleeping in my bed ... a creepy feeling of violation," said Yogerst.The intruders in this twisted Goldilocks tale: A homeless couple in their 20s. Neighbors spotted them in the driveway on Sunday. Yogerst says they found his hidden spare key and walked right in."It was like a Holiday Inn. They were enjoying their stay," said Yogerst.Yogerst says the presence of homeless in the area has increased in the past two years."Some of the churches, God bless them, do feed them, but that does bring them in," said Yogerst.Yogerst says only a few items were taken, including loose change, toiletries, and prescription medication. One of the suspects has a distinct description: A transient African-American woman, about 5-foot 5-inches tall, with bright orange hair.
