Now one Cheektowaga, New York girl is using the lemonade she makes to buy happiness for other children. Eight year-old Abby Jacques was devastated when she found out someone stole her brand new bike from her home on Cleveland Drive, so she decided to take action. She set up a lemonade stand to raise money for a new bike. Word about what happened to Abby spread on social media.After Erie County Comptroller, Stefan Mychajliw posted a photo on Facebook, the community pitched in to help Abby get a new set of wheels.Mychajliw and Howard Cadmus, owner of Sweet Jenny's in Williamsville, split the cost of a new bike.You can still find Abby outside of her home selling lemonade, but now to help others.All of Abby's future lemonade sales will be given to children in need of bikes and helmets at the Seneca Babcock Community Center.For those looking to support Abby, a PayPal account has been set up.  1007

She can't walk, talk or eat," Julia's mom, Lisa Talbot, told CNN.But this disability is not stopping Julia from living her best life. She loves the fact that her wheelchair can make her costumes that much more epic, and people just go gaga over her, her mom says."She loves attention. She loves life! She giggles all the time," Talbot said, and added that Julia loves that people on Halloween actually come up to her and engage with her, talk to her, and pay attention to her.And attention is what Julia got when her mom shared the photo on Twitter?of the little but mighty RBG impersonator.With a simple caption -- "My daughter's wheelchair made the PERFECT foundation for her Halloween costume" -- Julia's photo gained over 26,000 likes and nearly 6,000 retweets.Her parents always want to create costumes that send a positive message, whether it's subtle or not. There has been no phone call between President-elect Joe Biden and President Donald Trump. There has been no concession from the commander-in-chief either. America is currently enduring one of the most turbulent transitions in recent memory. So what is not happening that should be during this non-traditional transition? NO SIGN-OFF ON TRANSITIONWhile Biden has held events with signs like "The Office of the President-elect" behind him, technically the office has not been activated by the General Services Administration. It may sound like an obscure government agency, but the office is responsible for unlocking funds and access for the president-elect. Without the GSA starting the transition, Biden can't telephone current members of the executive branch and receive confidential briefings from them. He doesn't have access to taxpayer funds to begin the background check process for some appointees. SIGNIFICANT IMPLICATIONS The implications go beyond the lack of a photograph between Biden and Trump in the White House. The last time the United States experienced a delayed transition was in 2000 because of the Florida Recount. The 9/11 Commission, following the September 11th attacks, put some blame on the transition because it prevented President George W. Bush from putting some national security advisers in key positions in a timely manner. Congressional Democrats have sent a letter asking GSA administrator Emily Murphy to brief Congress on why the transition has not begun. 1503

There was a rare sight at San Diego City Hall on Tuesday.A local developer pitched a massive mixed-use complex with hundreds of homes to the council, in front of mostly empty seats. "Our focus has always been on creating a sense of place for the entire neighborhood," said builder Gary Levitt, of Sea Breeze Properties.Sea Breeze Properties plans to transform a 72-acre site just south of the 56 into hundreds of homes, plus offices, retail, and even a hotel and movie theater. The project, Merge 56, didn't get a single 'no' vote from multiple community planning groups.Some nearby residents even came to the meeting to support the project. But even with that backing, it still took five years just to get the council's unanimous vote of approval Tuesday.Levitt said the delays come from regulations, including environmental impact reports, and cost his company an extra million - about 15 percent of that in city processing fees.Councilman Scott Sherman said that is one reason we're in housing crisis. "At the end of the day all the prices get passed along to the consumer and the price of housing," Sherman said. Levitt said ideally it would take two years for a project to get approved. "It's a very expensive process and at the end of the day you're just playing with paper," he said. The project includes 242 new homes, condos, and apartments. Additionally, 47 of them will be affordable units. Two environmentalists did raise concerns about local impacts but the council didn't acknowledge them in their deliberation. Levitt's work, however, isn't done. He still has a number of permits to obtain. They're administrative, but he estimates it'll be about four months before he breaks ground.   1771
