BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. – The governor of New Jersey has announced the state’s first death from the new coronavirus. “We are sad to report the first death in a case of COVID-19 in New Jersey," said Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement Tuesday. "Our prayers are with the family during this difficult time. We remain vigilant to doing all we can — across all levels of government — to protect the people of New Jersey.” The deceased is a man in his 60s from Bergen County who had a history of traveling between New Jersey and New York and had a history of working New York, according to Department of Health Commissioner Judith M. Persichilli. He was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center on March 6. He eventually suffered two cardiac arrests.Including the deceased, New Jersey now has 16 cases of the novel coronavirus. RICHMOND, Va., — Hospitalizations and the number of cases connected to the coronavirus are decreasing, according to Henrico-Richmond District Health Director Dr. Danny Avula.Avula and city officials provided an update on the progress surrounding COVID-19 and evictions during a Monday afternoon press conference inside City Council Chambers. Avula said the progress has recently plateaued, but the city is in a better position compared to other states.“The pandemic is still very real. COVID-19 is real and what we don’t want to happen is that COVID-19 catches us slipping,” Mayor Levar Stoney said.There have been more than 2,200 positive cases reported in the city and 29 deaths since the start of the pandemic. No Richmonders have died from complications to the virus within the past two weeks, Stoney said.Dr. Avula said they are investigating a cluster of cases that stemmed from a party.About 50 people attended the party indoors and four people have tested positive, Avula said. He would not reveal where the party was held.“Now we are seeing the immediate impact of that. I think that serves as a cautionary tale that the virus is still out there. RICHMOND, Va. -- A 5.1 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Virginia and North Carolina Sunday morning.There have been no immediate reports of damage, nor injuries.The earthquake was recorded at 8:07 a.m. and was centered near the state line in Sparta, North Carolina, about 300 miles southwest of Richmond.Sunday's earthquake is one of the biggest to impact Virginia since the 5.8-magnitude earthquake centered in Mineral, Virginia on August 23, 2011. And the largest earthquake in North Carolina since a 5.2 earthquake in 1916."According to the U.S. Geological Survey database, the 5.1 magnitude earthquake near Sparta this morning is the second strongest earthquake to occur in North Carolina 1900," the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg Office wrote on Twitter. The Cleveland Indians are moving forward in the process to examine and possibly change the team name and will be meeting with Native American leaders to help determine the best path forward.Indians owner Paul Dolan announced Thursday that as part of the organization's continuous efforts to discuss the team name, there have been productive meetings earlier this week with manager Terry Francona and numerous players to discuss the name, as well as social justice and racial equality issues.To continue examining the best path forward, the organization said it will be engaging with Native American leaders to “better understand their perspectives,” in regards to the team name.The organization will also hold discussions with civic leaders and said it will continue to listen to the opinions and perspectives of players, fans, partners and employees.“We feel a real sense of urgency to discuss these perspectives with key stakeholders while also taking the time needed to ensure those conversations are inclusive and meaningful,” Dolan said. “We will continue to share periodic updates as we make progress. In the meantime, we are excited for our team to return to the field to continue our pursuit of a World Series Championship.”Dolan said that the organization appreciates the “passionate response” it has received over the last few weeks since announcing it would be discussing a possible name change.
