During a press conference on Wednesday, three UCLA basketball players apologized for their actions after being arrested for shoplifting while on a team trip to China.LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill all each made a point to thank the United States government and President Trump, who reportedly intervened on their behalf. Prior to Wednesday's press conference, Trump publicly asked on Twitter whether the players would thank him for helping bring them home. 479

During a phone interview with Fox Business on Thursday morning — his first TV interview since contracting COVID-19 — President Donald Trump said that while he hasn't been tested for the virus recently, his health is continuing to improve."I'm essentially very clean," Trump told Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo.Trump added that he would be tested again for the virus "very soon" to determine if he's still infected. The President also added that he doesn't "feel" like he could spread the virus to others."No, I don't think I'm contagious. I don't think I'm contagious at all," Trump said.According to the CDC, people infected with COVID-19 can still spread the virus, even if they are asymptomatic. The virus is typically active in humans for about two weeks, though it can last longer. The White House has refused to report when Trump last tested negative for the virus, but Trump announced his positive test on Friday, meaning he may be contagious for about another week.White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said on Wednesday that Trump would like to begin working from the Oval Office and that White House staff would implement safety precautions to make that happen. The CDC recommends those who are infected with the virus remain quarantined.Trump also falsely said Thursday that he's now "immune" to COVID-19."Remember, when you catch it, you get better, and then you're immune, you know?" Trump said. "As soon as everything goes away for me, you're immune."There are several documented cases where people who had previously contracted COVID-19 caught it again — though they suffered less severe symptoms. The CDC says that estimates indicate that COVID-19 antibodies make a person immune for about three months.During his Thursday interview, Trump said he assumed earlier this year that he might catch the virus at some point."But I did look at the numbers say I'll probably catch it, and I'll get better," Trump said. "And that's what happened."Despite the risks, Trump said he needed to continue to face the public because he had to be a "leader." As an example, he said he continued to meet with the families of soldiers who had been killed in action, even though social distancing was not always observed at those ceremonies."They're telling me these stories, and I can't say, 'Back up, stand 10 feet.' I just can't do it. I went through like 35 people and everyone had a different story," Trump said. "They come within an inch of my face sometimes, they want to hug me and they want to kiss me. And they do. I'm not telling them to back up."Trump said Thursday that he believed he contracted the virus at a September ceremony at the White House where he nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court."As far as the White House is concerned, somebody got it in — it was a day of celebration with Notre Dame, etc. etc. Somebody got in and people got infected, whether it was there or something else.," Trump said. Finally, Trump touted the COVID-19 therapeutic drugs he took while in the hospital, falsely calling them "cures." He added that drugs made by Regeneron and Eli Lilly would be granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the FDA to treat the virus."You take it, and it beats the hell out of it. I'm telling you, I could have walked out of there 24 hours after I went in. I didn't even have to go in, frankly. I think it would have gone away."Trump was referring to REGN-COV2, a monocolonal antibody therapy the clones the strongest antibodies from COVID-19 patients. Regneron formally requested EUA for the drug on Wednesday.Regeneron says it has approximately 50,000 doses of the drug on hand, but could have up to 300,000 doses "within the next few monts," according to CNBC.While the drug has been effective in treating COVID-19, there is no "cure" for the virus. Health experts expect several COVID-19 vaccines to be approved by the end of 2020 and be widely available by the middle of 2021. 3940

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- An act of kindness on the job went a long way for an El Cajon family. On Christmas eve, two El Cajon police officers didn’t hesitate to buy dinner for a family living in their car. While always ready to respond to calls, officers never know exactly what they'll find. On this Christmas Eve call, they found a woman named Juanita and her two children, living in their car. Detective Travis Howard is President of the El Cajon Police Officers Association. He says the officers bought the family dinner at Jack in the Box and then closed the call. But after their shift, they wanted to do more, dipping in their own pockets to get the family a hotel room for two nights so they wouldn't be homeless on Christmas. The two police officers who first helped the family didn’t do it for the praise and asked to remain anonymous. 859

EL CAJON (KGTV) -- A motorcyclist who crashed into a parked truck on a residential street in Fletcher Hills has died, El Cajon police said Tuesday.Shortly after the crash, some off-duty nurses rushed to help the critically injured motorcyclist, identified Wednesday as 36-year-old Julian Garcia, allowing emergency crews to rush him to the hospital.Jennifer Lepari said she heard a “loud boom” on Valley Lake Drive near Valley Mill Road around 8:30 p.m. Monday. “It almost shook the house. It was really, really loud,” she said.Lepari and her husband Jerome are both nurses. Jerome quickly used his belt as a tourniquet on the rider’s leg to staunch the bleeding while Jennifer applied pressure and spoke with dispatchers, according to neighbors.“With the amount of blood he lost and the time it took [for emergency crews to arrive], even the cops said [the rider] wouldn’t have lasted if [Jerome] hadn’t done that,” Lepari said.El Cajon police say the motorcyclist struck a parked work truck on Valley Mill Road for unknown reasons. Investigators believe speed may have been a factor but the crash is still under investigation, Lt. Randy Soulard said.A third off-duty nurse who lives around the block also tended to the badly injured rider, neighbors said.“It was awesome to see the people with that sort of medical experience jump in and not hesitate,” said a neighbor named Lisa.Once police arrived, an officer applied a second tourniquet to the rider’s leg, Lt. Soulard said. Around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, police confirmed to 10News the rider had died. 1561

Dozens are dead and wounded after an airstrike hit a bus carrying children in northern Yemen Thursday, according to the International Committee for the Red Cross and eyewitnesses. The school bus was hit as it was driving through a market in the rebel-held province of Saada, according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV."Scores killed, even more injured, most under the age of ten. @ICRC_ye sending additional supplies to hospitals to cope with the influx," Johannes Bruwer, the head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen wrote on Twitter. The Saudi-led Coalition, which has been conducting a military campaign to oust the Houthi rebels, didn't immediately respond to CNN questions.Houthi media broadcast gruesome footage appearing to show the dead bodies of children. Other footage showed a young boy carrying a UNICEF backpacks being escorted to a hospital, his face bloodied as medical staff tried to treat his injuries.Witnesses that CNN spoke to said the attack could be heard from neighboring districts.Yahya Shaem, head of the Houthi-held health office in Saada, told CNN that the children in the bus were on their way to their summer camps. 1155
