President Donald Trump tweeted on Friday that he has signed an executive order calling for stiff punishment against those who damage statues and monuments.The order comes days after protesters attempted to topple a statue of President Andrew Jackson from Lafayette Park near the White House. Dozens of officers moved in to push the protesters back.In recent weeks, there have been calls from supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement to remove statues and monuments of those tied to slavery and the Confederacy. Those calls have been met with swift opposition from Trump and fellow Republican leaders.But the movement has found support from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Califfornia, who has asked for 11 statues in the Capitol of Confederate leaders being removed from the complex. “We are looking at long-term jail sentences for these vandals and these hoodlums and these anarchists and agitators,” Trump said earlier this week.Trump later added in an interview with Fox News, “We should learn from the history. And if you don’t understand your history, you will go back to it again."“I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues - and combatting recent Criminal Violence. President Donald Trump slammed his administration's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, during a conference call with his campaign staff, calling him a "disaster," according to Axios, The Associated Press and NBC News.During the call, Trump reportedly claimed, without evidence, that more than 800,000 people would have died of COVID-19 by now "if I listened to him." As of Monday, more than 200,000 have died of COVID-19.Trump also called Fauci a "nice guy," who had been in his position for "500 years." Fauci has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since he was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.During the call, Trump added that he would be unable to remove Fauci from his position without significant public backlash."Every time he goes on television, there's always a bomb, but there's a bigger bomb if you fire him. This guy's a disaster," Trump said.Trump added during his campaign call that he believed Americans were ready to move on from the COVID-19 crisis."People are tired of COVID. I have these huge rallies," Trump said, according to CNN. "People are saying whatever. Just leave us alone. They're tired of it. People are tired of hearing Fauci and all these idiots."Trump's comments came a day after Fauci was interviewed on 60 Minutes. During that interview, Fauci said he was "absolutely not surprised" to learn that Trump had contracted COVID-19 earlier this month, citing the fact that the President often appeared in large crowds without a mask.Fauci, one of the most plain-spoken members of the White House's coronavirus task force, has said that the Trump administration has taken steps during the pandemic to limit his media appearances. Price gouging continues to be a problem for Amazon shoppers, according to the U.S Public Interest Research Group (PIRG).A consumer watchdog says the price spikes are not based on normal supply and demand.“People are really struggling right now, and the last thing that they need to worry about is going to the store or going online and finding the products that they really need to keep themselves safe at ridiculous prices,” said Grace Brombach, a consumer watchdog associate with U.S. PIRG.U.S. PIRG found a wide range of products can cost two to 14 times more. For example, disinfecting wipes cost nearly on amazon, compared to about at other stores.They suggest making sure you know the average price and shopping around.As part of the HEROES Act, Congress passed price gouging legislation.Some states have bills to further define emergency products to fight price spikes.
