(KGTV) - People who live and work around Carmel Mountain are having their patience tested by a road work project.San Diego Public Works began laying new asphalt on a two-mile stretch of Rancho Carmel Drive on Monday this week and so far it’s been three days of congestion for those who have to drive through the area.“This is insane,” said one driver who had been waiting for over an hour on connecting to go a few blocks.Several people told 10News they had been in traffic for up to two hours in a quarter-mile span because of the road work.In a statement SDPW wrote:In response to the increase in traffic, we have sent one of our traffic engineers to the site to assess how the traffic control can be improved to reduce the traffic impacts of the work. We want to apologize to all those that were impacted by the traffic. We expect that this particular stretch of work should be completed today, and the remainder of the paving work on Rancho Carmel Dr. should be done within a week or two, with final striping to follow.SDPW says crews will work 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and they plan to have the Rancho Carmel Dr. project done by April 20. 1183

It’s a toy he brings in for older adults, as part of his job with Home Instead.“We provide senior care for seniors in their home,” he said. “A lot of times the only person our senior will see is their caregiver.” Trujillo works as the recruitment and engagement coordinator for Home Instead in Whittier, California.Right now with COVID-19 concerns, interactions for seniors are limited, and all the more important.“They’re very aware that they are in that high majority group of people who don't survive this, so it does lead to a little depression,” Trujillo said. Depression these lifelike animals help combat.“Well before the pandemic we’ve been focused on this epidemic of loneliness and isolation which is really impacting seniors at an astronomical rate,” Ted Fischer, co-founder and CEO of Ageless Innovation, said. And these furry friends, designed with older adults in mind, bark, meow, and react to your attention just like real animals.“Pets in general have always helped seniors and most people get out of a funk. Coming home to that dog that’s just looking at you and wagging its tail, it’s hard to feel upset because that's unconditional love,” Catherine Baines-Sobczak, a licensed marriage family therapist with the HealthOne crisis assessment team, said.“Essentially it’s a perception of not feeling connected to other people, feeling unsupported or feeling that you’re misunderstood,” she said. She said beyond the online games, book clubs, and phone calls, animals provide something special.“With seniors it's difficult to find things to care for that give you that immediate reaction, so those pets...they do that,” she explained. “Having something to hold that’s tactile, that's soft, that may bring up memories of past pets they've had...that could help them feel less lonely.”Decreasing the sense of loneliness has other health benefits too.“Their memory is also impaired by loneliness, you don't have those outside triggers to remind you of things and to stay connected,” Baines-Sobczak said.As we find new ways to connect with our older loved ones without putting their health at risk, the demand for companion pets, which are sold online, continues to bloom.“I think like most skeptics, the second you see an older adult receive one of these, immediately name it and interact with it like they've had it forever, it’s magical. (KGTV) - On Friday, Attorney and Deputy Director of ACLU’s National Immigrants’ Rights Project Lee Gelernt spoke to ABC 10News about how his staff members have not found the parents of 545 children nationwide who were separated by the Trump Administration.“We have found hundreds of others but there remains [to be] hundreds who we have not found,” he said in a Zoom interview.Earlier this week, the ACLU revealed the numbers to San Diego Federal Court Judge Dana Sabraw in a new filing for a case stemming from a lawsuit brought by the ACLU, challenging the president's practice of asylum-seeking family separations, which were put into place after he took over office. “We then had to go door to door on the ground in Central America looking for these parents. [It was a] painstaking, dangerous process. We were making some progress but ultimately the pandemic hit and that slowed things down,” he added.Gelernt said the children are now living with relatives and foster families in the U.S., after they were released from government detention. He added that the ACLU will continue searching for their parents and advocating for their return. “We think that given what these families have gone through, their children ripped away from them, they deserve legal status in the United States,” he said.ABC 10News reached out to ICE for comment, which referred us to DHS. (KGTV) - San Diego County leaders say a massive church gathering on the sand at Cardiff State Beach Sunday violated the health mandate to prevent the spread of COVID-19.The event featured music, prayer, and people getting baptized in the ocean.Alisha Goodman is the mom of two teenagers. She also ministers to three other teens from broken homes. They all went to the event together."It turned out to be way more than I would have ever imagined, or expected it to be. I think everyone has just been so suppressed for the past few months. It was an opportunity for us to get out and worship and be together and feel that presence of God that we haven't really had an opportunity to do," said Goodman.Pictures on social media captured huge crowds with little social distancing and not a lot of people wearing face coverings.Goodman says she felt safe."I think everybody was being fair with each other and social distancing within their immediate families and friends group, but there was some hugging and people who hadn't seen each other in a long time, they haven't seen each other in 4 months," said Goodman.The event was organized by Sean Feucht. He's a member of Bethel Church in Redding, but the church was not involved with Sunday's gathering. He's held similar events across the country.10News tried reaching Feucht through his social media accounts, but we did not get a response.In response to media inquiries after the event in Redding, he issued a statement on his Facebook page saying in part, "Government leaders voiced support for outdoor protests in recent months, they should not be condemning Christians seeking to gather in worship. She was shocked at the size of the crowd and the lack of social distancing."We're working really hard, to keep employees safe and to keep businesses open.
