It is rare that inside President Donald Trump's White House that something bipartisan can get accomplished. But that is exactly what has happened when it comes to trade. WHAT CHANGES TODAYFor nearly thirty years, NAFTA, which stands for the North American Free Trade agreement, governed trading between the United States, Mexico and Canada. It basically sets the rules by which companies needed to follow in order to avoid paying a tariff or fee to ship their product within one of those North American countries. In recent years however, Democrats and Republicans have both criticized the agreement as a reason companies moved their jobs overseas, particularly to Mexico or Asian countries. Beginning today, NAFTA is no more with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in effect. WHAT'S DIFFERENTThe trade agreement has been read over and scrutinized by lawyers of Fortune 500 companies for months, but some of the biggest impacts affect the auto industry, the steel industry and dairy farmers. Under the agreement, in order to avoid a tariff, 75% of a car must be built in North America. 70% of the steel and aluminum in a car must also come from North America. It also demands 40-45% of the car be built by workers earning at least /hour. That last provision is key because those new wages are nearly triple what Mexico is paying it's workers right now in some instances. Dairy farmers in the United States will also have expanded access into Canada, which is something the US agricultural community has called for years. WILL IT CREATE JOBSThe White House claims this new deal will result in hundreds of thousands of jobs in the coming years. Regarding whether any new jobs are being created right now, Treasury Department spokeswoman Monica Crowley said it is too soon to tell. "Well it just goes into effect today, but we will see that going forward but the good news that we got today but the good news is that manufacturing has hit a 14 month high in the month of June," Crowley said. 2015

IRVING, Texas – In a letter sent to scouting families Monday, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced its support of the Black Lives Matter movement.The BSA’s National Executive Committee pointed out that the organization wasn’t living up to one of the 12 points of The Scout Law – bravery.“Brave means taking action because it is the right thing to do and being an upstander even when it may prompt criticism from some,” wrote the committee. “We realize we have not been as brave as we should have been because, as Scouts, we must always stand for what is right and take action when the situation demands it.”The BSA went on to say that there is no place for racism in scouting or in its communities, and it won’t be tolerated.“We condemn the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and all those who are not named but are equally important. We hear the anguish, feel the heartbreak, and join the country’s resolve to do better,” the committee wrote.The organization also said it would be introducing a specific diversity and inclusion merit badge that will be required to become an Eagle Scout.“It will build on components within existing merit badges, including the American Cultures and Citizenship in the Community merit badges, which require Scouts to learn about and engage with other groups and cultures to increase understanding and spur positive action,” wrote the committee.Additionally, the BSA is also committing to reviewing every element of its programs to ensure diversity and inclusion are ingrained at every level for participants and volunteers by applying a standard that promotes racial equality and denounces racism, discrimination, inequality and injustice.It’s requiring diversity and inclusion training for all BSA employees starting July 1 and taking action toward introducing a version for volunteersAnd lastly, the organization is conducting a review of property names, events and insignia to build on and enhance the organization’s nearly 30-year ban on use of the Confederate flag and to ensure that symbols of oppression are not in use today or in the future. 2115

It's been several hours since Hurricane Laura made landfall, but the storm is still delivering devastating gusts of wind to inland Louisiana.In it's 4 a.m. CT update, the National Hurricane Center downgraded Laura from a Category 4 hurricane to a Category 3 hurricane. But the storm is still delivering maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, and "unsurvivable storm surge."According to the NHC, Laura will continue to deliver hurricane-force winds to central and northern Louisiana throughout the day on Thursday. The storm will then move to the northeast, bringing heavy rain to the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley regions on Friday and through the weekend.Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana at about 1 a.m. CT on Wednesday as an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm with 150 mph sustained winds. The Category 4 rating makes Laura is the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Louisiana in at least 60 years, according to the National Weather Service.The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Wednesday that "Laura is expected to produce catastrophic impacts from the coast to well inland; life-threatening storm surge, extreme winds, torrential rain, flooding, and tornadoes."On early Thursday morning, NOAA's Coastal Inundation Dashboard showed storm surge warnings all across Louisiana's shoreline. The dashboard also noted that readings from Calcasieu Pass — a tributary near Cameron that flows into the Gulf of Mexico — showed that surge was recorded at about 9 feet as of 1:30 a.m. CT."Take the next few hours and get your family to a safe location," Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said at a Wednesday afternoon press conference. He reminded residents that during a hurricane, it is hard to respond to emergency calls right away for people who decide to stay behind.The National Hurricane Center issued an "extreme wind warning" for areas of Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana at about 11 p.m. ET on Wednesday. A fairly new and rarely-used warning, it's issued for areas expected to see winds of 115 mph or higher. INDIANAPOLIS — A special prosecutor chose not to press charges against Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill, after four people accused him of sexual misconduct. The alleged sexual misconduct happened in the early morning hours of March 15, 2018, at a party at A.J's Bar in Indianapolis. The alleged behavior included suggestive statements and unwanted touching by Hill.  Hill did not deny touching occurred but said it was either incidental to conversation or movement in the bar, according to the prosecutor's report.The special prosecutor, Daniel Sigler, investigated a potential charge of misdemeanor battery. Fifty-six witnesses were interviewed during the investigation, and a video statement was obtained by Curtis Hill."Mr. Hill was cooperative with my requests throughout the process as were all witnesses interviewed," Sigler wrote in his statement. Sigler said he found the women's claims as "true and credible.""Their motives appeared sincere and I found all to be credible in their belief that Hill touched them in a way that was inappropriate," Sigler wrote. "The decision made today should not and does not reflect on their credibility," Sigler wrote at the end of his statement. "They addressed their concerned in an appropriate fashion and forum and should be subjected to no criticism."The Indiana Inspector General also released a report about the investigation. The Inspector General's report is more detailed in those interviewed, and the exact allegations against Hill. Of the 39 people interviewed who attended the party at A.J.'s Bar, 20 of them said Hill appeared to be intoxicated. When asked why they believed that, some said he was slurring his words or had trouble standing up. One witness described him as "acting like a freshman at a college frat party," while another said he behaved in a "predatory, intoxicated manner." Another 15 people at the party said they couldn't comment, weren't sure, or couldn't remember if Hill was intoxicated. Four said they didn't believe he was intoxicated. The initial accusation against Hill came from Mara Candelaria Reardon, an Indiana State Representative from Munster, Indiana. She told investigators Hill put his hand on her back at the party, then slid it down her dress and grabbed her buttocks. She said she told him to back off, then left the conversation.Later in the evening, Reardon said Hill returned to her and touched her back. She reported that Hill said "that back, that skin" when he touched her.The investigators interviewed a male witness to the incident, who said he saw Hill touch her "with his own two eyes." Other witnesses said they saw them together and saw Hill touching her back, but didn't see how far down his hands went. One of those witnesses said Reardon approached him and said that Hill was "a creep," but said she didn't elaborate further.Hill's second accuser told investigators he approached her and started rubbing her back. She told investigators "she felt trapped," and was uncomfortable and embarrassed, and afraid of how others would see what happened. A third accuser told investigators Hill approached her and made her uncomfortable with the conversation. She said she told him "it's really hot in here," and Hill replied, "Yes, you're really hot."In addition to the known four public accusations, investigators also learned of two more incidents where people stated they were made uncomfortable by Hill's actions at the party, according to the Inspector General's report.“While the findings of our investigation did reveal unacceptable behavior by a state officeholder, and which significantly impacted those affected, we respect the grounds on which Special Prosecutor Sigler made his decision,” Inspector General Lori Torres said. In an announcement shortly after Sigler's, the women who accused Hill said they are pursuing a civil lawsuit against him. Hill's attorneys released a statement about the announcement. INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Roncalli High School students say the controversy brewing after a guidance counselor says she was asked to resign over her same-sex marriage sheds light on a culture of intolerance at the Indianapolis school that has been going on for years. In 2012 after two students took their own lives, classmates say they formed an after-school group called "Rebels 4 Acceptance." Some of them were dealing with bullying issues, some with mental health issues and others issues involving their LGBT status. "It definitely would not have been safe for one of my classmates to come out, not entirely anyway," said Andria McHugh, class of 2013. "They may have been fearful if they did. Just of judgment."The group's founding members say it was meant to be a safe place for all students to find acceptance. The group met every few weeks to talk about what they were going through and how they could make school more inclusive for everybody. But after less than a year, the group says their club was shut down by school administrators. "They had seen it as encouraging homosexual behavior,' said Kendall Wood, class of 2014. Counselor Shelly Fitzgerald has been placed on administrative leave after she says someone sought out her marriage certificate showing she was married to another woman and gave it to the school. In a statement released Monday, Roncalli has said the expectations and teachings of the Catholic Church are clearly defined in employee contracts and job descriptions. Fitzgerald says she has been overwhelmed by the support she's seeing from the community and her students."I mean, it's a great message for my daughter more importantly than anything," said Fitzgerald. "It's a great message for our students and our community at Roncalli because it's what we've taught them all along. Be kind to each other, take care of each other, be welcoming to each other and do it with Jesus in your heart."WRTV has reached out to Roncalli High School administrators and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for comment about the students' claims and about Fitzgerald's status with the school.
