Conservatives -- including House Speaker Paul Ryan -- are striking back after President Donald Trump announced last week he planned to raise tariffs on aluminum and steel coming into the US."We are extremely worried about the consequences of a trade war and are urging the White House to not advance with this plan," Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong said in a statement Monday morning. "The new tax reform law has boosted the economy and we certainly don't want to jeopardize those gains."Earlier Monday, Ryan's office blasted out a CNBC article that linked a drop in the markets to Trump's planned levies on steel and aluminum.  640

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A local Tuskegee Airman who served in World War II was honored and celebrated in a special way on Thursday.Asa Newman who was part of the Tuskegee Airmen— the first African American unit to fly combat airplanes in World War II—recently turned 102 years old.To celebrate this American hero, community members lined the street as law enforcement honked their horns and a crowd waved across the street to Newman. The Aurora Post of the American Legion was there to honor Newman who was surrounded by family and friends.Newman grew up in Cleveland and attended East Cleveland High School. Colin Kaepernick's publishing company is putting out a collection of 30 essays over the next four weeks about abolition, police, and prisons. The project is titled: "Abolition For the People: The Movement For A Future Without Policing & Prisons." Kaepernick envisioned and curated this project following the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. In his introduction, Kaepernick writes that the killings of Floyd and Taylor "forced our nation to grapple" with the "devastation of police terrorism." The quarterback began to kneel during the national anthem in 2016 to protest racism and police brutality. Kaepernick hasn't played in the NFL since that season and settled his collusion grievance with the NFL. 724

CINCINNATI — It has been nearly two weeks since media reports first raised then swatted down the prospect of a Target Corp. merger with the Kroger Co.And what have we learned? The deal might make sense from a territorial point of view but not so much in financial terms. The idea captured Wall Street’s attention for just a few hours. Fast Company magazine, citing several anonymous sources, said Kroger and Target were discussing a merger.CNBC, citing one anonymous source, said they were not. Both companies declined to comment on the speculation. Barclay’s analyst Karen Short published a note arguing the idea made some sense. Oppenheimer’s Rupesh Parikh said the most likely outcome is a partnership between the companies involving Shipt, a home-delivery service Target acquired in December. Each company saw a brief spike in their share price Friday, but both surrendered most of those gains before the week’s closing bell. Since then, however, each company saw some resurgence in their share price, as if investors were asking, “What would a combined Target and Kroger look like?”This is the answer to that question: 1133

CINCINNATI, Ohio — He was wrong and then he was wronged: That’s how the parents of a 14-year-old jolted by a Taser view the 2017 incident that left their son with a broken clavicle and a delinquency finding in juvenile court. After reviewing the case, a Cincinnati Police Sergeant concluded the use of force complied with department policies. The teen “actively resisted” and “fled on foot,” injuring his clavicle by falling down a hill before being hit with the stun gun, according to the department’s incident report.Diondre Lee agreed his son should not have run. But he was also sickened by an officer’s casual description of his son’s tumble five minutes after it happened.“Yeah, he bounced,” Officer Kevin Kroger said on police body camera. “He hit real hard.”Antionette Lee fought back tears as she watched video of her son’s arrest.“He was treated like he just didn’t matter,” she said “They told us something totally different than what we saw. And I’m pissed.” 977
