(CNS) - Kobe Bryant's widow, Vanessa, responded Thursday to a lawsuit filed against her by her mother demanding financial support and claiming the late Laker legend had vowed to take care of her financially for life.In a statement posted online, Vanessa Bryant accused her mother -- Sofia Urbieta Laine -- accused her mother of trying to "extort a financial windfall from our family." She, instead, contacted me through intermediaries -- contrary to what she claims, my phone number hasn't changed -- and demanded million, a house and a Mercedes SUV."Bryant said she refused, causing her mother to make "false and absurd claims" while demanding "more money than my husband and I ever spent to provide for her while he was alive.""She has no regard for how this is affecting my children and me," Bryant said. "She wants to live off of my daughters and me for the rest of her life while continuing to collect monthly alimony from her ex-husband since 2004. (KGTV) -- Schools in the Grossmont Union High School District reopened for in-person learning Tuesday, allowing students back on campuses for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March.A large number of students began in-class instruction on Tuesday, but there were many others who chose to remain at home for distance learning.ABC 10News was at Santana High School in Santee on Tuesday morning as students with masks on trickled onto campus. Each student underwent a health screening before heading into their classrooms.Under the district’s blended learning plan, reopening campuses to a limited number of students is step 2 out of 5. Each school will only have 25 percent of students on their campuses. Each group will attend in-person learning once a week; the rest of the time they’ll be learning from home. (KGTV) — Border officials seized more than million in unreported currency being smuggled into Mexico through San Ysidro.Officials stopped a vehicle on Dec. 9 in the southbound I-5 lane at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The vehicle was referred to inspection where canine officers alerted CBP officers to the driver's side quarter panel of the vehicle.Officers discovered numerous packages containing undeclared U.S. currency in the quarter panel, under the vehicle's third row of seats, and in the cargo area, CBP says."CBP officers and a canine team successfully stopped the smuggling of the currency during outbound inspections," said Anne Maricich, Acting Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego. "This is a demonstration of great police work and dedication to the CBP mission by our officers with the goal of stopping the illicit movement of currency through the border."The money was seized by the CBP. 995

(KGTV) - A SWAT team was called to a San Marcos apartment complex Tuesday morning after a man suspected in a stabbing incident barricaded himself in an apartment unit.San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials said deputies were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Knoll Road shortly before 2:30 a.m. in response to an argument that escalated into a stabbing.According to sheriff’s officials, deputies arrived to find a 49-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.Officials did not immediately release additional details on the altercation.Responding deputies spotted a man believed to have been involved in the stabbing and attempted to make contact with him, but he ran into an apartment unit and barricaded himself.A SWAT unit surrounded the complex after the man refused to come out.At around 8:30 a.m., sheriff's officials said the man surrendered without incident and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for attempted murder, officials confirmed.Late Tuesday afternoon, sheriff's officials identified the suspect as 20-year-old Saul Resendiz Jr., the victim's son. 1236
