In just the latest reminder of the dangers of pollution in our oceans, a dead whale in Indonesia has been found with 13.2 pounds (six kilograms) of plastic waste in its stomach.The 31.17-foot sperm whale was found near Kapota Island in Wakatobi National Park, southeast of Sulawesi.Park officials found bags, plastic bottles, sandals and 115 plastic cups in the whale's stomach, as well as a sack containing more than 1,000 pieces of string."Although we have not been able to deduce the cause of death, the facts that we see are truly awful," said Dwi Suprapti, marine species conservation coordinator at WWF-Indonesia, in a statement to CNN.The macabre discovery was made in an area popular with tourists and comes at a time of increasing concern over the impact of plastic pollution on marine life.In June, a short-fin male pilot whale died in southern Thailand and was later found to have ingested more than 17 pounds of plastic bags and packaging.During an autopsy, veterinarians found more than 80 plastic bags in the whale's stomach.A 2015 report by Ocean Conservancy and the McKinsey Center for Business and Environment found that over 50% of the plastic leaking into world oceans comes from China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, suggesting that the two whales died in dangerous waters for marine life.The report claims that a 65% reduction in plastic waste leakage in those five countries would lead to a 45% reduction globally.Without intervention, the amount of plastic cluttering the Earth's oceans will triple within a decade, according to a recent study by the UK government.However, there is evidence that lawmakers are taking notice of the threat, as the European Parliament voted to ban single-use plastics in October.The proposal covers items such as straws, cotton swabs and cutlery, in addition to obliging EU states to recycle 90% of plastic bottles by 2025.In October, the dangers of plastic were underlined when a decades-old bottle washed up almost intact on a UK beach.The plastic bottle of dishwashing liquid was at least 47 years old, with its branding still clearly visible.The-CNN-Wire 2140

Everybody is still very concerned about health and safety and looking to the attractions industry is a great place," said Susan Storey, the Global Communications Director for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).Storey says most theme parks across the country are mandating masks and not allowing as many people into the parks."They’re very good at managing how many people can be in a line, to how many people would be in a restaurant," Storey said. "We’re experts at moving people around and being able to provide a safe, healthy, fun experience."Storey says most theme parks are outside on large properties, giving people the ability to spread out."Technology has come into play, too. You can buy your tickets online and show them with your phone. You can do mobile ordering with food, so you’re not standing in line. You can just order, go and pick it up," Storey said. INDIANAPOLIS -- A guidance counselor at Roncalli High School says she was sad and hurt that school administrators and the archdiocese gave her the option to resign or dissolve her marriage after they learned that she was married to a woman. Shelly Fitzgerald says she was asked to meet with school president Joe Hollowell and Principal Chuck Weisenbach last Friday.At that meeting, Fitzgerald says she was shown a copy of her marriage certificate. Hollowell said someone turned it into him and that he then had to turn it into the archbishop."I was hurt, sad, I was hurt," said Fitzgerald. "I've been there 15 years. I've been a part of a community that loves each other. I was stunned. Fitzgerald says she was given four options: to resign, dissolve her marriage or, "stay kind of quiet and hope that it would, you know, stay quiet until the end of the year and keeping my job as long as possible if it stayed out of the media and then they would not renew my contract the following year. Or depending on how boisterous it became, they would have to move towards sooner termination.""I love my wife very much. I didn't have any intention to resign a job that I adore. For me to walk out was like saying I didn't want to be there anymore and that wasn't the case," said Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald says she's been quiet for the past 15 years and she wants to be honest with the people in her life that love her. "It really wasn't hiding, I'll tell you that.
