BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- China will make unswerving efforts and work jointly with the international community for the completion of the Bali Roadmap negotiations at the Mexico climate talks next year, a senior official said Saturday.     Xie Zhenhua, vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), told Xinhua that China, as it has always done, would continue to play an active and constructive role on that front.     Also head of the Chinese delegation to the Copenhagen climate conference, Xie said developed countries bound by the Kyoto Protocol should confirm their second-phase emission reduction targets as soon as possible.     He said almost no progress was made on some key issues during the international climate change meeting in Copenhagen because developed countries were seeking to shift off obligations demanded by international climate agreements.     "Developing countries have raised requests concerning slowing and adapting to climate change, as well as funding and technology assistance, but developed countries have given no clear response, resulting in almost stagnation on key issues in these talks," he said.     It is also necessary to define the comparability of efforts in emission reduction between non-contracting developed countries and those who have endorsed the Protocol, said Xie.     He said parties bound by the Protocol should fulfill their commitment to short-term financing and stick to their promises on long-term funding.     Xie also urged developed nations to speed up technology transfer to developing countries.     Prior to the climate meeting, the Chinese government announced to cut emissions intensity by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 from the 2005 level.     During the talks in Copenhagen, China played an active role in seeking a viable solution to tackle global warming when diversity existed among countries, and it made great efforts to seek common ground while putting aside differences for further discussions, Xie said.

BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Ruling parties of China and Japan on Thursday pledged to deepen trust and work together for a stronger strategic relationship of mutual benefit between the two countries.     The pledge came out of a meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Ichiro Ozawa in Beijing on Thursday afternoon. Ozawa is leading a delegation of 600-strong members, including 146 DPJ lawmakers from the upper and lower houses of the Japanese Diet, for a four-day visit in Beijing. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States underlined that each country and its people have the right to choose their own path, and agreed to hold the next round of human rights dialogue in Washington by the end of February 2010, said the China-U.S. joint statement issued Tuesday.     According to the statement, the Chinese and U.S. sides agreed that all countries should respect each other's choice of a development model.     "Both sides recognized that China and the United States have differences on the issue of human rights," said the statement, "Addressing these differences in the spirit of equality and mutual respect, as well as promoting and protecting human rights consistent with international human rights instruments, the two sides agreed to hold the next round of the official human rights dialogue in Washington D.C. by the end of February 2010."     The two sides agreed that promoting cooperation in the field of law and exchanges on the rule of law serves the interests and needs of the citizens and governments of both countries, and decided to convene the China-U.S. Legal Experts Dialogue at an early date.

His proposal won high appraisal and was warmly applauded by the paticipating leaders.     PROMOTION OF SOLUTION OF GLOBAL ISSUES TO MAKE NEW PROGRESS     The international community is facing severe challenges of climate change, which concerns human survival and development, Hu said.     The international community has actively taken steps to tackle climate change despite the existence of some difficulties in the negotiation process, he said, adding that the world should be full of confidence, redouble efforts, and strive to overcome difficulties in this regard to achieve positive results.     Hu said the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol have laid the legal foundation for the international community to collaborate on addressing climate change and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities has already become a universally accepted and basic principle for tackling climate change.     Also, the "Bali Roadmap" has made clear the requirements and orientation of international cooperation on climate change, he added.     All parties concerned should abide by the above principle and requirements, fully demonstrate their political will, turn their political will into real action to push forward the process of relevant talks and work to realize the goal of strengthening the implementation of the UNFCCC in a comprehensive and sustainable way, the Chinese president said.     In recent years, international talks on implementing the "Bali Roadmap" had made progress and reached consensus on a number of aspects, he said, calling on the international community to build on the consensus and progress and work to reach further consensus, and push for a positive outcome of the Copenhagen climate talks. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday called on Iran to "engage constructively" with the P5+1 and to "cooperate fully" with the IAEA to facilitate a satisfactory outcome.     The call was made in a joint statement issued here after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides reaffirmed their strong support for a comprehensive and long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations.     "The two sides agreed that Iran has the right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and it should fulfill its due international obligations under that treaty," said the statement.     The two sides welcomed the talks in Geneva on Oct. 1 between the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and Iran as "a promising start" towards addressing international concerns about Iran's nuclear program, and expressed their readiness to continue that engagement as soon as possible.     They emphasized in the joint statement that all efforts should be made to take confidence building steps and to call on Iran to respond positively to the proposal of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
