SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Pac-Man is the newest inductee into the Comic-Con Museum's Character Hall of Fame, the San Diego-based museum announced Thursday.Pac-Man "is being honored as the original digital game mascot for his enduring impact he has had on the video game industry and the role of storytelling in games," according to the museum, which is scheduled to partially open in Balboa Park in mid-2021.The iconic, hungry yellow circle will be the second character in the museum's hall of fame. Batman was inducted in the hall of fame's inaugural year in 2019.This year marks the 40th anniversary of Pac-Man, which is the highest- grossing video game ever made, according to the museum. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - One of nine servicemembers killed last month when an amphibious assault vehicle sank in the ocean near San Clemente Island was laid to rest Friday at Miramar National Cemetery.Lance Cpl. Chase D. Sweetwood, 18, was among those killed in the July 30 maritime training mission when the vehicle they were in took on water and sank.Family members say the Portland resident was born in San Diego and grew up in Chula Vista, and died one day before his 19th birthday.Sweetwood was honored during a Friday morning funeral that included military honors and a procession from the Patriot Guard Riders.Eight Camp Pendleton-based Marines, including Sweetwood, and a Navy sailor died in the mishap. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego City officials Saturday will rededicate a Skyline-area police substation in honor of a patrolman gunned down nearly four decades ago during a traffic stop two blocks from where the precinct house now stands.The SDPD Southeastern Division headquarters will be renamed the Archie Buggs Memorial Building during a late-morning ceremony on the 39th anniversary of the slaying. Two of the late lawman's relatives -- his sister, Gwen Buggs, and cousin, Pam Jones -- are scheduled to be present for the event.Buggs, 30, came under fire in the early morning hours of Nov 4, 1978, after stopping a 1968 Chevrolet driven by 17-year-old gang member Jesus Cecena in the 7100 block of Skyline Drive.The teen fired five times at Buggs, then paused, walked toward the downed officer and shot him in the head at point-blank range. Buggs died on the street, his hand on his service revolver.Cecena was convicted of murder and sentenced to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole in August 1979. Because of his age at the time of the killing, his sentence was reduced to a seven-years-to-life term in 1982.Three years ago, a change in the law made Cecena eligible for youth offender parole. His release was approved by the state Parole Board in April 2014, but Gov. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sales of previously owned single-family homes and attached properties like condominiums and townhomes both fell by roughly 25 percent in September compared to August, according to data released Tuesday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors.Single-family home sales decreased from 2,039 in August to 1,536 in September, a 24.7 percent decline. Condo and townhome sales fell from 1,056 to 792, a 25 percent decrease.Year-over-year sales figures were also down, with single-family home sales falling 21.6 percent from 1,958 in September 2017 to 1,536 last month, and attached property sales down 22.7 percent from 1,024 to 792 listings sold.In total, previously-owned home sales in 2018 are down 9 percent compared to the first nine months of 2017."I'm hopeful that residential sales will continue along a mostly positive line for the rest of the year," said GSDAR President Steve Fraioli.
