Federal prosecutors from special counsel Robert Mueller's office and Paul Manafort's lawyers tangled throughout the weekend over the former Trump campaign chairman's bail as he awaits a trial on white-collar criminal charges. In a filing Sunday night, Mueller's lawyers outlined a proposal to allow Manafort to put up million in assets for his bail and travel only in Virginia, New York and Florida. He would not be able to apply for a new passport (his three passports have been confiscated). The government lawyers also contested whether Manafort's properties are worth what he says they are. 604
ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- An Encinitas family is thanking surfing legend Laird Hamilton after they say he rescued them during a flood while on vacation in Kauai. The Gwilliam family says they were enjoying a normal vacation on the island when, like usual, it started to rain. The family says they weren’t worried until the heavy rain got even heavier. “It was the type of rain that was so heavy, we would say there’s no way I could get worse," recouted Erin Gwilliam. "Then it got worse."The family says so much rain had fallen, the ground was no longer absorbing the water. That’s when the trouble started.Erin and her husband Jamas took photos of the homes all around them, some of which collapsed from the strong floodwaters. The only bridge in and out of the small town of Hanalei was covered by several feet of water. By the end of their trip, not only had the Gwilliam family run out of food, they also needed to catch their flight. The family was almost out of time when a friend called with a plan. The plan? Big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton.Erin says her family was a little star struck. "Being in the same boat as him was a little intimidating, but he didn't let that be, it was just like hurry get on we gotta go.”Hamilton took them to safety across the river and to a dock where the family was able to drive to the airport.Erin says she is thankful the surfer came to save them from a dangerous situation. “The ocean and water is his life he was so comfortable and confident in what he was doing, he was extremely capable, having him get you out it was a huge relief.”Due to the severe damage, Hamilton and his wife have set up a GoFundMe account to raise money. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - In recent days, swarms of butterflies have been spotted across North County, from Escondido to Vista to Fallbrook. They're Painted Lady butterflies, migrating north from Mexico. Tom Merriman, Director at Butterfly Farms in Encinitas, says conditions have been perfect for the species. The wet winter fueled vegetation growth in the Sonoran Desert in Mexico, giving caterpillars a lot to eat. “You’re going to see butterfly after butterfly after butterfly. Every two, three seconds you're going to see another butterfly coming through.”However, it's hard to predict when and where they'll be throughout the next few weeks. “The conditions were just perfect, I mean there could be over a billion of them, we don’t know. I'm hearing people from Palm Springs to Vista," said Merriman. He says he hasn’t seen a migration this vast in years. They're traveling at about 20 to 25 mph headed north to Oregon where they’ll breed, lay eggs and then die; the next generation will continue on north. The Painted Lady is smaller than the Monarch, and the two are relatives. If you'd like to donate to Butterfly Farms in Encinitas, funds are needed to help maintain the organization’s services to the community and to science. 1245
