"You are canceled," "they are over," "that company should be canceled." The term “canceled” means someone or a company is shamed for something they have said or posted online.During the last few months, there have been a number of celebrities who have been canceled for their posts of past and present. A video of Jimmy Fallon wearing blackface 20 years ago resurfaced and turned into a trending #JimmyFallonisOverParty.Ellen DeGeneres has faced allegations of mistreating her employees. There have been many posts for herself and her show to be canceled. With kids online more than ever, your teen's timelines may be filled with hate and toxic messages.Ronna Glickman is a local social media safety expert. She talks to schools and parents about navigating the social media world for students and what parents should talk to their kids about the content they post.“Kids are spending more time online,” Glickman said. There’s no way around it with-- with phones, computers, and remote learning“You’re putting something out there not thinking about the future and how it will affect you that’s the teen or preteen brain, Glickman said."I post then maybe I think.”Thinking about what you post now is important for kid’s futures.Writing an offensive message, cyberbullying a classmate, or posting an inappropriate picture to social media-- it's out there for the public to see.“Don’t believe that delete means delete...and think about it, is that something you want your name associated with?" Glickman added.Since April-- one start-up that detects and filters toxic content online, L1ight, found hate speech between teens on social media and in chat forums increased 70 percent. With the rise of cancel culture on many timelines, Glickman says parents need to keep a lookout for cyberbullying.“It’s, unfortunately, a lot easier to post something when I can do it behind a keyboard and a screen and not see your reaction," Glickman said. This story was first reported by Rebecca Thornburg at WKBW in Buffalo, New York. 2021

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - San Diego Police shot a man who died Wednesday at a San Ysidro mobile home park. The incident happened at Willow Road and East Calle Primera about 1:45 p.m., police confirmed.According to police, witnesses say the suspect, who was only described as a Hispanic man in his 50s, was walking through mobile home park with an AK-47-style rifle. A witness told police that the man was acting odd and appeared to be hiding from someone. Several people in the area say the man pointed the rifle at them. After police arrived on scene, the man approached the officers’ location and fired a round from the rifle, police say. An officer ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he didn’t cooperate. At that point, a witness said the man raised the weapon in the direction of the officers and gunshots were heard again before the suspect fell to the ground. Officers administered first aid until medics arrived. The suspect, who hasn’t yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that one officer, a 2-and-a-half year veteran of the department, shot the man. The officer’s name isn’t being released at this time.  LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The work of Jonas Salk helped cure polio 63 years ago, when the polio vaccine was created. The vaccine changed countless lives, changing the nation. Salk's work pushed further though, helping to create the March of Dimes. An organization that continues to work with the Salk Insitute in La Jolla - so it's researchers can one day eradicate other diseases. 10News Anchor Steve Atkinson spoke with polio survivor Dennis Nutter about his experiences with the disease as a child in the 1940s. "I was five-years-old in 1948. I just remember being extremely tired. I couldn't get up and walk," Nutter said. "Finally, I was just bedridden. The town doctor just said, 'let's just take him to the hospital and with a spinal tap they said it was polio.'"Professor Martin Hetzer is the vice president and chief science officer of the Salk Institute. "The March of Dimes is called the March of Dimes because it was literally...many, very small contributions that allowed people like Jonas Salk to pursue their science," he said. "And in his case, it led to the eradication of and the elimination of polio."The discovery saved millions of lives. "There are so many things that they, children today, don't have to endure that my generation had to," Nutter said. "All the diseases, tetanus, typhoid, smallpox that's a big one, polio. They're all being eradicated one by one."10News Anchor Steve Atkinson: 1455

Country singer Chase Rice is facing criticism for playing a concert in Tennessee as COVID-19 cases continue to surge. Rice posted video on Instagram of his packed show at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, which is a music venue about three hours east of Nashville in Petros.People on social media pointed out the lack of masks and social distancing.Kelsea Ballerini was among those calling Rice out, tweeting in part: "Imagine being selfish enough to put thousands of people’s health at risk, not to mention the potential ripple effect, and play a NORMAL country concert right now." Imagine being selfish enough to put thousands of people’s health at risk, not to mention the potential ripple effect, and play a NORMAL country concert right now. @ChaseRiceMusic, We all want (and need) to tour. We just care about our fans and their families enough to wait. ?????♀? https://t.co/eJaLnGu28k— Kelsea Ballerini (@KelseaBallerini) June 28, 2020 The venue says it followed state guidelines, including reducing capacity from 10,000 to 4,000 and requiring temperature checks at the door. LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - A local city councilman is making a desperate plea for tips tonight after his wife was attacked outside their home. It happened just off Palm Street after 5:30 a.m. Saturday. A disturbing picture of the incident was painted in a Facebook post by Lemon Grove City Councilman David Arambula. He writes that his wife was "brutally attacked' while going to the trash can. He adds that the attacker, "opened our gate, then hit her over the hit her over the head with a block of wood. This was completely unprovoked and unexpected."One neighbor described her as traumatized, conscious and suffering a head wound. Deputies say the 38-year-old woman escaped into her home, while the man ran off. The motive remains a big mystery. Neighbors say they've had issues with people wandering the area, high on something."There is a sober living facility a few blocks away. We've had a few incidents of people in their own zone, yelling and screaming - but nothing violent," said neighbor Tim Bossard.Arambula posted on Facebook that his wife is "getting better."The attacker is described as a black man about 30 years old, 5'9", and 175 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt, dark denim shorts, high socks, white shoes, sunglasses and a blue hat. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477. 10news has reached out to Arambula and are waiting to hear back. 1406
