(KGTV) — Border officials say 19 people were arrested after a panga boat was intercepted off the coast of Dana Point in Orange County on Friday.Crews say just before 1 a.m., U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials spotted a single-engine panga boat traveling out of Mexican waters with no lights and with multiple people on board. The boat was monitored moving north, until about 3:30 .m., when CBP officials directed San Diego units to the boat's location about 11 nautical miles west of Dana Point.Nineteen people, 18 adults males and one adult female who all claimed to be Mexican nationals, were taken into custody, CBP says. They were all turned over to Border Patrol for processing.“This interception exemplifies the unique air and sea coordination, vigilance and law enforcement capabilities of our highly skilled interdiction agents in keeping our coastal border safe,” Timothy Sutherland, with Marine Operations San Diego Air and Marine Branch, said. “The combination of expertise, technology and training were the key for the success of this operation.” 1076

(CNN) -- Scientists have discovered a "monster black hole" so massive that, in theory, it shouldn't exist.It's a stellar black hole — the type that forms after stars die, collapse, and explode. Researchers had previously believed that the size limit was no more than 20 times the mass of our sun because as these stars die, they lose most of their mass through explosions that expel matter and gas swept away by stellar winds.This theory has now been toppled by LB-1, the newly-discovered black hole. Located about 15,000 light years away, it has a mass 70 times greater than our sun, according to a press release from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.The findings were published by Chinese researchers in the journal Nature on Wednesday."Black holes of such mass should not even exist in our galaxy, according to most of the current models of stellar evolution," said Liu Jifeng, head of the team that made the discovery. "LB-1 is twice as massive as what we thought possible. Now theorists will have to take up the challenge of explaining its formation."Scientists are now scratching their heads at how LB-1 got so huge.The Chinese team has proposed a number of theories. LB-1's sheer size suggests that it "was not formed from the collapse of only one star," the study said -- instead, it could potentially be two smaller black holes orbiting each other.Another possibility is that it formed from a "fallback supernova." This is when a supernova -- the last stage of an exploding star -- ejects material during the explosion, which then falls back into the supernova, creating a black hole.This fallback formation is theoretically possible, but scientists have never been able to prove or observe it. If this is how LB-1 formed, then we may have "direct evidence for this process" for the first time, the study said.LB-1 is not the biggest black hole ever discovered -- but it may be the largest of its kind. There are several types of black holes, and stellar black holes like LB-1 are on the smaller side, according to NASA. Supermassive black holes are much bigger -- they can be billions of times the mass of our sun.Scientists believe supermassive black holes may be connected to the formation of galaxies, as they often exist at the center of the massive star systems -- but it is still not clear exactly how, or which form first.Stellar renaissanceStellar black holes are believed to be commonly scattered across the universe, but they are difficult to detect because they do not normally emit X-rays -- only doing so when they gobble up gas from a star that has ventured close enough. They are so elusive that scientists have only found, identified, and measured about two dozen stellar black holes, the press release said.The researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences tried a different approach. Instead of looking for X-rays emitted by black holes, the team looked for stars that were orbiting some invisible object, being pulled in by its gravity.Their efforts paid off -- they soon spotted a giant star eight times heavier than the sun, orbiting around what turned out to be LB-1."This discovery forces us to re-examine our models of how stellar-mass black holes form," said David Reitze, a physicist at the University of Florida. In May, Reitze's team made its own breakthrough discovery -- observing the never-before-seen collision of a neutron star and a black hole, which sent out ripples in space and time.These twin discoveries -- the collision, and now LB-1 -- indicate that scientists are reaching "a renaissance in our understanding of black hole astrophysics," said Reitze in the press release.There have been several other discoveries over the past year that have added to this renaissance. In October, researchers discovered what they believe to be a new type of black hole, smaller than the other kinds. (KGTV) - A San Diego man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police say he stabbed two classmates during a reenactment of a movie scene at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.The man, identified as Jake Wascher, 21, was in an on-campus apartment with two male classmates when the stabbing occurred."A 21 year old male suffered one puncture wound to the chest and four to the back. A second victim a 19 year old male suffered from a single puncture wound to the chest as well as a puncture wound to the back," Lieutenant Paul Cicero with Hartford Police said.Wascher attended the Coronado School of the Arts, a pre-professional arts education program on Coronado High School's campus. His Facebook page states he graduated in 2016.10News spoke with a former student of CoSA, who worked as a tech for a year."CoSA is really a mostly just a bunch of nerds, all of the acting kids and music students, just dorks really," Christian Molenaar said. "I feel like most people aren't worried about getting stabbed in high school theater," he said.Molenaar was shocked when he learned of the events that unfolded Sunday, saying his younger sister graduated the same year as Wascher.Police say Wascher fled the crime scene and hid in a nearby wooded area, then gave himself up. Doctors have taken out her feeding tube and she is now awake.Sadly, her cousin was killed in the crash while the driver walked away with minor injuries. Cerciello says she’s been relying on prayers and positive thinking for strength.As more San Diegans head to Indio for weekend two of the Coachella music festival,Cerciello has a harsh warning that they shouldn’t put themselves in danger.She nearly lost her daughter last week. “She's like a miracle,” Cerciello said. Manuela Cerciello-Rahbari, 16, suffered severe brain damage when the BMW she was in with her cousin and a friend who was driving veered off the road.They slammed into two trees on I-10, 40 miles away from the festival. “Their main goal was to be there at 7 a.m.,” Cerciello said.They left around 3 a.m., but never made it. “The driver fell asleep while driving. They were both asleep, my niece and my daughter,” she said.Cerciello says she even called to warn them. “If you're tired, you need to stop. You don't keep on going,” she said. “You can’t challenge your body.”Their car was part of a caravan with friends and Cerciello feels peer pressure played a deadly role. “I know the kids were texting ‘speed up, speed up’ because we have all the messages.” Now, she's passing along her own message to other parents and their children.“Parents, they think ‘Don't drink.
